Weekend Recap 11.13.17 Wedding in Captiva Island

Good morning!!!  I hope you are having a nice week and had a nice weekend!  Ours started early on Wednesday morning when we headed to the airport to catch our flights to Captiva Island.  My oldest friend, Dana, got married this past weekend!!  Dana and I went to preschool together, lived in the same neighborhood growing up, went to elementary school together and then reconnected about 4 or 5 years ago when we both lived in Cincinnati.

Jon and I arrived Wednesday afternoon and headed straight to a late lunch on the water before making it to the resort.  This was our view as we crossed the bridge. 🙂

IMG_7117

We were exhausted from traveling all day so we were in our pajamas and in bed by 7pm.  It was lovely.

IMG_7174

A little while later we were greeted with a knock on the door from the hotel staff that dropped off a welcome bag from the bride and groom that included schedules of the weekend activities.

Thursday morning we headed to the gym before laying at the pool for a couple hours.  After a while, one of us got restless (…it was not me… I could lay at the pool all.day.long.) so we headed to our room to change for a round of golf.  There is a 9-hole course on the resort property (we stayed at South Seas Resort). Okay, I didn’t actually golf… I drove the golf cart and painted my nails while my husband played. 🙂

IMG_7172

We lucked out with amazing weather the entire weekend.

IMG_7171

After golf we got cleaned up to go to dinner at Harbourside Bar & Grill.  We opted for a table outside since the weather was beautiful.

We shared some shrimp to start while we admired all the yachts parked at the marina. 🙂

After dinner we headed over to the beach where the bride and groom hosted a welcome party with drinks and dessert for all their guests.

On Friday morning Jon had plans to play golf with the groom and some boys so I opted for a workout and some relaxation at the pool.  Before we knew it, it was time to get ready for the wedding!  We hopped on the trolley, which took us out to a beautiful location overlooking the ocean.

IMG_7176

How cute is the bride and groom’s little boy all dressed up in a suit?

IMG_7140

The ceremony was beautiful!!  The bride and groom read their own vows , which always makes me cry.  🙂 After the ceremony, the trolley took us to the golf course where the reception was held.

I’m not quite sure if you can get much prettier than this venue.

I mean really?!?!  How amazing is that sunset!!!

IMG_7152

After cocktail hour, speeches, and dinner, it was time for dancing!

The beautiful bride, Dana, and I.  It was just a tad bit windy. 🙂

IMG_7156

Saturday morning we headed to the pool for a few hours.  We ordered lunch poolside and this salad was sooo tasty!

IMG_7160

Later in the afternoon we headed to the beach to meet up with some friends to hang out for a little while.

IMG_7161

Once we were nice and toasty, we headed back to the room to clean up for dinner.  We went to Harbourside Bar & Grill again since it was so close to our room.  We got a different type of shrimp to start this time and it was really good!  The sauce was amazing.  I can’t remember what my husband got, but I got the red snapper and it was SO yummy!!

After dinner we stopped by the bride and groom’s house to say hi before heading back to our room.  Our flight wasn’t until Sunday afternoon so we got to sleep in a bit, hit the gym, and take our time packing up before hitting the road for the airport.  We had such a blast in Captiva, but we sure were happy to see our pups again!!  We really missed them. 🙂

I hope you guys have a wonderful week!!  I am hoping to have my post about our DIY dining room table up next week!  Can’t wait to show yall!!

  1. How was your weekend?  What was the highlight?
  2. Do you like seafood?

Weekend Recap 9.17.17… Friends Wedding in Columbus & Lots of Old Friends

Hey friends!!  How was your weekend?  I didn’t get around to blogging this weekend because it was jam packed!  We left for Columbus, OH on Saturday morning at early o’clock for our friends’ wedding.  We had a short layover in Chicago and got to Ohio around noon.  We rented a car and drove about 15 minutes to our hotel downtown.

I found this picture on my husband’s phone from dinner last week when my mother-in-law was in town.

IMG_6657

After we arrived, Jon went to meet up with a friend of his while I rested for a bit before getting ready for the wedding later that evening.  The wedding and reception was at the Westin Hotel.  The hotel is beautiful!

IMG_6656

After watching our friends say I do, there was a fun cocktail hour with all the guests.  My husband is friends with the groom from college; they were in the same fraternity.  A lot of their fraternity brothers attended the wedding so it was really fun getting to catch up with everyone after all these years.  Fun fact: My husband and I met in college at Miami of Ohio.  He was a junior and I was a freshman.  At the cocktail hour, there were a bunch of different napkins personalized by the bride and groom.  My favorite included fun facts about them!

IMG_6654

After the cocktail hour, we headed back to the same room where the ceremony took place for the reception.  They transformed it into a beautiful reception with lots of tables and a dance floor.  These were waiting at our seats with lottery tickets inside.  How cute!

IMG_6651

The couple had a traditional Jewish ceremony and included my favorite Jewish tradition.  I always get nervous that someone is going to fall and get hurt, but thankfully no one did. 🙂

IMG_6653

We had a blast celebrating the beautiful couple and seeing old friends.  After a few hours of dancing we headed back to the hotel for some rest before another early morning flight.  We left Columbus at 8:25am and got home to Nashville at 8:40am thanks to the time change!  It was so nice to have all Sunday at home to get ahead for the week.  We went grocery shopping, walked the dogs, cleaned the whole house, meal prepped and even got in some naps. 🙂

Have a great week, yall!!

Questions:

  1. Favorite part of a wedding?
  2. What was the highlight of your weekend?
  3. How many weddings (if any) are you attending this year?

Weekend Recap 10.31.16 … Bray Wedding in Cleveland, Ohio

Good morning!! Happy Halloween!! I hope your weekend was full of fun and relaxation!  We arrived home last evening after a wonderful weekend in Ohio celebrating the marriage of two good friends.

I’m going to do a quick recap because I’ve got to go vote today (will be out of town during election) and I’ve got a lot of stuff to do before we leave town again tomorrow!

We got into Cleveland late Friday night and checked into the Hyatt Place and ran to the nearest tv to see the end of the Indians game.  Woo they won!!  Then we called it a night.

Saturday morning started bright an early with breakfast and then a workout at the hotel before we got ready for the wedding.  The wedding ceremony took place at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church.  It was a beautiful ceremony!

img_3422

We had a few hours to in between the ceremony and the reception so we headed to B Spot to meet up with our friends, Amber and Andrew, who just got married a couple weeks ago!  We had a blast reminiscing their fun wedding weekend!

img_3429

We were roommates our freshmen year of college and have been friends ever since!  Love this girl!

img_3434

Around 6pm we took the shuttle to the reception at St. Demetrios Cultural Center.  The bride and groom put so much thought into all the small details.  They had a box that your could give them advice that they would open on their 1st, 5th, an 10th year wedding anniversary.  Such a neat idea.  The couple met at Miami University (in Ohio), which is actually where my husband and I met too.

I don’t have many pictures of the night because we were busy dancing the night away.  But the highlight of the night… the bride and groom danced their first dance and when we thought they were almost done, they busted out into choreographed dancing to about 10 different songs.  Everyone went wild cheering the couple on.  It was by far the best surprise of the night!!

Here’s us wishing we could dance like the newlyweds. 😉

img_3436

Oh, and they had a photobooth with so many fun props! We had such a blast!!!

img_3441

Congrats to the newlyweds, Kat and Steve!  We are so happy for you both!! xoxoxo

This wedding wraps up wedding season for us this year!  We had so much fun witnessing the weddings of 4 of our favorite couples!

Questions:

  1. What did you do this weekend?
  2. Are you dressing up this year?  If so, as what?
  3. Since it is almost lunchtime, what are you having today?

Weekend Recap 9.13.16 Indianapolis, golf, Cincinnati wedding and friends

Hi friends!! Thank you for all the love yesterday!  We had a lovely dinner out last night followed by an early bedtime… we are crazy, I know. 😉

Today I am going to recap our long weekend back in the midwest!  Last Wednesday we flew into Indianapolis and got to spend time catching up with my in-laws over dinner at home.  Thursday morning we went out to breakfast at Cafe Patachou with my in-laws before heading to the BMW Championships golf tournament.  My husband loves golf and his parents offered us their tickets in a suite for the day so we happily accepted.

img_2636

The weather wasn’t the best, but we had fun watching a little bit of golf and meeting some people in the suite.

I much prefer to watch golf from one place rather than follow a few players around.

img_2637

After a few hours at the golf tournament, we hopped in the car and headed to Cincinnati.  Our first stop was my aunt and uncle’s house to say hi.  We used to live less than a mile from them in Cincinnati.

img_2651

We just had to stop by our old house when we were there.  It is such a weird feeling going back to a house that we have so many memories in and was truly our first house together.

img_2649

Later that night we met up with some friends of ours for sushi at Cloud Nine.  It was just as good as we remembered! These friends actually got engaged the following day so that was super exciting!!!

img_2653

After dinner we were able to grab a quick drink with our friends, Luke and Mary, who actually just visited us last weekend in Dallas!!  We spent the evening begging them to come back to Dallas soon. 🙂

Friday morning my husband had to work for a while so I headed off to lunch with one of my best girlfriend’s at Sleepy Bee Cafe.

img_2656

We had the best time reminiscing and catching up over delicious food and lots of coffee!!  I really love the opportunities and adventures that come with moving often, but it sure does make me miss my friends.

img_2655

Friday night we headed to the rehearsal dinner at The Art of Entertaining.

img_2658

The atmosphere is so neat with wine everywhere and we had the most delicious food.  The starter salad was to die for.

The place had the cutest knickknacks all around and I snapped a few pictures of the funny sayings about wine. 🙂

After lots of chatting and eating, we headed out and went straight to bed.  We were exhausted.

img_2678

Saturday morning I had some free time while my husband was eating breakfast with the groomsmen so I headed out to an old favorite running path of mine for a 5 mile run.  It was as beautiful and as hard as I remembered. 😉

img_2684

After a quick shower, I headed off to lunch with one of my girlfriends and her fiance and baby!!  We went to an old favorite restaurant of mine, Tellers.  We had so much fun catching up and I just loved getting to meet her sweet little one.  Look at those chunky little legs… ahh the cutest!!

img_2694

After lunch I headed off to get ready for the wedding!  I arrived early to see my handsome groomsman.

IMG_2696.JPG

Then I went and found a seat!  The wedding was at the Hilton Netherland Plaza in the Hall of Mirrors.  It was absolutely stunning.

img_2703

After the beautiful ceremony, we headed to the cocktail hour while they transformed the room to the reception.  It was amazing what they did in one hour!

img_2705

img_2706img_2708

I got the halibut and it was delish!!!

img_2709

We spent the rest of the night dancing away!  It was so much fun!

img_2718

Us with the newlyweds!! Congrats to our great friends, Rachel and David!

img_2725

The next morning we headed to Taste of Belgium with some of our good friends that also have a new baby that we hadn’t met yet.  We talked and talked and talked until it was time to head back to Indy for our evening flight.

img_2710

This little boy was so well behaved!  Such a doll and always great to see our sweet friends!

img_2717

This was one of the best weekends as we got to see two of our great friends tie the knot and we got to catch up with all of our Cincy friends that we have missed so dearly since moving to Dallas.  Good friends are hard to come by so it was so important to us to make sure we saw as many as possible.

Have a great day!

Questions:

  1. What did you do this weekend?
  2. What is your favorite wedding cake flavor?
  3. Do you have a favorite running path?

We Made It… One Year Wedding Anniversary and Way Too Many Ceremony Pictures

Good morning, friends! How was your weekend?  Mine was so wonderful as we were in Cincinnati celebrating two of our good friends’ wedding and running around seeing all our old friends!  I will recap the weekend tomorrow because today’s post is dedicated to my sweet hubby as today marks one year of being married.

Our wedding day was the best day of my life.  But, it has not been a walk in the park ever since.  Marriage is not easy.  This year has been full of very high highs and very low lows.  Marriage takes a lot of work and commitment.  I am FAR from an expert, but if there is one thing I have learned in this first year of marriage, it is this: You cannot be the best partner if you don’t take care of yourself first.  I am guilty (as are most of us) of putting others first and often neglecting my own needs, but this year has helped me to realize the importance of taking time for yourself and constantly working to be the best you that you can be.  At times this year, when I put myself on the back-burner, I was not able to be the best wife/partner I could be to my husband.  The best thing I did for my marriage this year was to take care of myself in order for me to figure out how to be the best partner I can be to my better half.

I was talking to a friend recently about the idea of soulmates.  We both agreed that we didn’t really believe in the idea that there is only one person out there that you are meant to be with, but there are a handful of people you are truly compatible with.  This friend then said “It is a CHOICE to be with the person your are with… every day, you have a choice to make… to be with that person or not.”  This truly struck a cord with me.  Marriage is a choice.  Not just at the proposal or on your wedding day.  It is a choice every. single. day.  We all want this AH-HA moment, but that is not the way life works.  There may never be that moment that you KNOW for certain you are with the right person, but instead, you have a choice to make.  And I chose and still choose every day to be with my husband.  And he chose and continues to choose me (I am so thankful).  I think it is important to never stay stagnant in a relationship, but always continue to grow.  There will be ups and downs; relationships are often referred to as roller coasters, but you always have a choice to make.  You have the power to control your future and marriage certainly is not always the easy choice.  It is hard work and it needs constant attention, but it is worth every minute.  Marriage is a beautiful thing.

Happy Anniversary, Jonny!  I am beyond lucky to call you my husband.  I am so grateful that you have put up with me for almost 8 years and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us!  I love you!

Switching gears a bit… remember all those wedding recaps I promised you?  Well this week is the week!!  I am going to finish up summarizing our wedding day in posts throughout this week and I am really excited to relive the best day of my life.

Today’s post is all about our ceremony.  We chose to get married in my husband’s parents’ backyard and then have a reception downtown.  This place means a lot to my husband and it is absolutely gorgeous so this was one of the very first decisions we made after getting engaged.

plump_cerem-0043.jpg

Jon and I are both pretty non-traditional and didn’t want to follow a set order of events for our wedding.   We decided to make our ceremony completely ours and I am so glad we did.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Jon and I both presented our mom’s with roses to symbolize the joining of our two families.

We had Jon’s uncle marry us (he lives near us in Texas), my cousin sing, my aunt read, and my little brother play the harp.  It was perfect.

plump_cerem-0050

Early on we decided that we wanted to write our own vows.  I was so nervous to read mine out loud, but it was a very meaningful thing to us and I will cherish the words my husband wrote me forever.

Jon’s uncle gave a beautiful speech about us and marriage and we were so happy he agreed to marry us.

plump_cerem-0162

We said I do and exchanged rings.

plump_cerem-0223

And sealed it with a kiss!

plump_cerem-0234

We were SO excited to finally be husband and wife!

plump_cerem-0062

Our siblings were happy for us too. 🙂

Next, the first cocktail hour begins….

Questions:

  1. If you are married, how long have you been married?
  2. If you are married, did you have an indoor or outdoor wedding?
  3. Tell me something unique about your wedding/what you want for your future wedding.

Wedding Details

Hi there!! Happy hump day!!  Is anyone else still trying to recover from the time change? More coffee, please!

One of the first questions our wedding photographer asked us when we met her was what was important to us in our wedding photos.  I really wanted the love we have for each other to be captured, but another thing that was important to me were the wedding details.  My mom and mother-in-law spent days, hours, months preparing for our wedding day to make it so special for us and I wanted our photos to show that.

Today I wanted to show you a few of my favorite wedding details from our ceremony location!

The entrance to our wedding ceremony location (my in-laws house in Indiana).

plump_dets-0001

My mother-in-law made these signs that lined the pathway back to our ceremony location in the backyard.

plump_dets-0004

“Forever starts here”

plump_dets-0005

She also created these window frames and flower holders too.

plump_dets-0197

Our photographer and videographer both stressed the importance of an “unplugged” ceremony so we made sure to inform our guests.

plump_dets-0011

plump_dets-0009

My mother-in-law also created these pillows to set the scene.  So sweet.

My mom ordered pashminas and made cute tags that read “To have and to hold in case you get cold” which came in handy for our guests when the wind started blowing during our ceremony.

plump_favs-0002

I wore my grandma’s pearl bracelet and my great grandma’s (dad’s grandma) pearl necklace on my wedding day.

plump_pre-0051

Some of the gifts I gave my husband on our wedding day.  If you don’t already know, my husband is obsessed with our boat and being on the lake (any lake) and our love for the lake and the water was something we bonded over almost 7 years ago when we first met.  I got him a monogrammed koozie (not pictured), towel, anchor bottle opener, and captains hat (his nickname for me is Franny – my last name is Francy and he has always called me Franny).

Candles my stepdad made for our cocktail hour after the ceremony.

Thank you so much for letting me share more of our wedding day with you all!! I hope you have a great day!

  1. If you are married, did you wear any special jewelry on your wedding day?
  2. Did you get married inside or outside?
  3. What was your favorite little detail about your wedding?

Wedding Part 1

Hi guys! Happy Thursday to you!!! I have something extra fun for you today so I hope you enjoy it as much as I did writing it!

If you have missed my wedding recaps, be sure to check out my wedding page.  Today I want to share the first half of my wedding day with you all!

The day started out bright and early with a 5am wake up call after a late night at our amazing rehearsal dinner.  The severe exhaustion was completely covered by the excitement/nervousness I was feeling.  Up until my wedding day, I never really felt nerves about my wedding, but that morning, my hands were shaking.  The nerves mostly came from having to read my personal vows in front of our hundreds of family and friends.

My two uncles drove me, my bridesmaids, my aunt, and mom to my in-laws house where we got ready in the room above their barn.  (I stayed at the hotel downtown with my bridesmaid, Lissa, the night before my wedding day).  My mother-in-law had coffee, mimosas, breakfast and lunch ready for us in the barn so we wouldn’t have to leave and risk getting seen by the boys, who were getting ready at my in-laws house a few hundred yards away. (Riley was our ring bearer and my mother-in-law made his outfit to match the boys’ suits).  🙂

plump_pre-0031

The morning of my wedding was pure joy with my favorite girls.  We just laughed and talked as we got our makeup and hair done.  My sweet mother-in-law had a playlist of wedding related songs playing in the background and pictures of me and my groom displayed around the room.  It was so wonderful to spend extra time with my girls relaxing as I got ready for one of the biggest moments of my life.  With champagne, ofcourse.

plump_pre-0015

My bridesmaid, Lissa, saying an inappropriate  sweet toast.

plump_pre-0024

I told my girls to just wear pearl earrings on my wedding day.  I gave each of them a pearl necklace to wear to thank them for making this year so special for me.

plump_pre-0038

plump_pre-0041

We made Riley sing for us (he likes to howl if you do).

plump_pre-0013

Then he needed a nap.  Wedding prep is exhausting.

plump_pre-0052

My little brother, Jacob, came up to visit us while we got ready. He wanted a little help with his hair. 🙂

plump_pre-0010

So dang cute.

plump_pre-0011

We took a couple pictures outside in our cute monogrammed robes.

plump_pre-0025

Aren’t these girls just the prettiest??

plump_pre-0026

My momma, sister and me.

plump_pre-0033

It was finally time to get dressed!!

plump_pre-0044

It was a team effort! 🙂

plump_pre-0047

Love this picture of me and my momma!

plump_pre-0056

Then I was surprised with a gift from my future husband.

plump_pre-0071

He wrote me the sweetest, kindest, most thoughtful note I have ever read in my life.  I will keep it forever.  Oh, and he got me a beautiful pair of diamond earrings that I wore on my wedding day.  I cried more in that moment than I did the rest of the day.

plump_pre-0075

My husband and I chose not to see each other before our ceremony (I am so glad we did this) to make our first look extra special.  The girls and boys each took turns taking pictures out in the meadow (bridal party pictures in another post!).

plump_bg-0081

I even got to do a special first look with my dad.  It was really special to me.

plump_ff-0004

plump_ff-0009

I gifted my parents each (and in-laws) a picture frame with 3 spaces and put a baby picture on top, a personal note in the middle frame and the bottom frame was empty, but would soon be filled with a picture of our wedding day.

plump_ff-0021

plump_ff-0027

While we were taking pictures, it started to rain.  We quickly took cover and prayed for the rain to stop.  We got so lucky as the clouds parted and the rain let up right before our guests arrived (thankfully as we didn’t have much of a backup plan because we had to decide if we wanted the tent to cover our ceremony location 3 days before the wedding when the forecast called for no rain).

Ceremony, cocktail hour, bridal pictures and reception recaps to come!

Questions:

  1. If you are married, did you get married inside or outside?
  2. Did you and your significant other exchange notes/gifts on your wedding day?
  3. How big was your bridal party?
