The Good Ole Days and A Chilly Visit to Florida

Good morning friends!!!!  How is your week going?  I am headed out of town for work so I am going to keep this short and sweet today!

I realized that I had not shared my adventures from a girls night out a couple weeks ago.  My bestie, Rachael, and I went to dinner before meeting up with the rest of the girls for a fun night out!  I won’t tell you the name of the restaurant, but we both ended up with horrible food poisoning.  As soon as my uber dropped me off at home that night, I ran to the bathroom to throw up.  It was awful.  Then I was up all night until 5 am throwing up about every 20 minutes.  You guys, I have never had food poisoning before and I NEVER want to have it again.  It is the worst!

Before that disaster though, we had a really fun girls night!  We went to a show that had cover bands playing Christina Aguilera and Brittney Spears songs all night.  It was such a fun flashback to the good old days!

This past Thursday morning we flew down to Orlando and drove another two hours to Vero Beach to see my in-laws!  They just bought a house down there and my husband and I went down to help them start the renovation process!

The first night we were there we went out for Italian at Vincents.

I got the salmon (are you surprised?) and it was so so so yummy.  It had this incredible tomato sauce on it and it was just incredible!

Friday morning we were all up and at em nice and early to make the drive to Boca Raton to pick up furniture from my husband’s grandma’s house.  This is the grandma we just lost right before Christmas.  My in-laws decided to use some of her furniture to furnish the house for renters.  So we loaded up the uhaul and two cars and were headed back to Vero.  We were all pretty exhausted by the end of the day.

Friday night we went to Ocean Grill for dinner! I totally forgot to snap any pictures, but our meals were fantastic!!

Saturday my husband and I took a long walk around town.

We picked up some cupcakes for my father-in-law’s birthday and just strolled around taking in all the scenes.

We stumbled upon the Bark in the Park festival and just had to check it out.  We even got to see the doggies doing the dock jump!

They were so cute!!

Then we finished our long walk with a stroll on the beach.

Even though it was a little chilly, it was still such a relaxing afternoon with no plans.

On Saturday night we went to another local restaurant on the beach and all loved our meals again.  I love fresh seafood! And I sure do love this guy!!

I really got lucky in the in-law department.  Mine are just the best!!

It was such a quick and fun trip to Florida.  We got to see my in-laws and their new house and spend time relaxing.  I even started and finished an entire book while we were there!!!  It is so nice to have the time to read!  I hope you all had an amazing weekend too!!!

Weekend Recap 11.13.17 Wedding in Captiva Island

Good morning!!!  I hope you are having a nice week and had a nice weekend!  Ours started early on Wednesday morning when we headed to the airport to catch our flights to Captiva Island.  My oldest friend, Dana, got married this past weekend!!  Dana and I went to preschool together, lived in the same neighborhood growing up, went to elementary school together and then reconnected about 4 or 5 years ago when we both lived in Cincinnati.

Jon and I arrived Wednesday afternoon and headed straight to a late lunch on the water before making it to the resort.  This was our view as we crossed the bridge. 🙂

We were exhausted from traveling all day so we were in our pajamas and in bed by 7pm.  It was lovely.

A little while later we were greeted with a knock on the door from the hotel staff that dropped off a welcome bag from the bride and groom that included schedules of the weekend activities.

Thursday morning we headed to the gym before laying at the pool for a couple hours.  After a while, one of us got restless (…it was not me… I could lay at the pool so we headed to our room to change for a round of golf.  There is a 9-hole course on the resort property (we stayed at South Seas Resort). Okay, I didn’t actually golf… I drove the golf cart and painted my nails while my husband played. 🙂

We lucked out with amazing weather the entire weekend.

After golf we got cleaned up to go to dinner at Harbourside Bar & Grill.  We opted for a table outside since the weather was beautiful.

We shared some shrimp to start while we admired all the yachts parked at the marina. 🙂

After dinner we headed over to the beach where the bride and groom hosted a welcome party with drinks and dessert for all their guests.

On Friday morning Jon had plans to play golf with the groom and some boys so I opted for a workout and some relaxation at the pool.  Before we knew it, it was time to get ready for the wedding!  We hopped on the trolley, which took us out to a beautiful location overlooking the ocean.

How cute is the bride and groom’s little boy all dressed up in a suit?

The ceremony was beautiful!!  The bride and groom read their own vows , which always makes me cry.  🙂 After the ceremony, the trolley took us to the golf course where the reception was held.

I’m not quite sure if you can get much prettier than this venue.

I mean really?!?!  How amazing is that sunset!!!

After cocktail hour, speeches, and dinner, it was time for dancing!

The beautiful bride, Dana, and I.  It was just a tad bit windy. 🙂

Saturday morning we headed to the pool for a few hours.  We ordered lunch poolside and this salad was sooo tasty!

Later in the afternoon we headed to the beach to meet up with some friends to hang out for a little while.

Once we were nice and toasty, we headed back to the room to clean up for dinner.  We went to Harbourside Bar & Grill again since it was so close to our room.  We got a different type of shrimp to start this time and it was really good!  The sauce was amazing.  I can’t remember what my husband got, but I got the red snapper and it was SO yummy!!

After dinner we stopped by the bride and groom’s house to say hi before heading back to our room.  Our flight wasn’t until Sunday afternoon so we got to sleep in a bit, hit the gym, and take our time packing up before hitting the road for the airport.  We had such a blast in Captiva, but we sure were happy to see our pups again!!  We really missed them. 🙂

I hope you guys have a wonderful week!!  I am hoping to have my post about our DIY dining room table up next week!  Can’t wait to show yall!!

  2. Do you like seafood?

Last night in Florida

Happy Friday yall! We made it!! Woo!  I am looking forward to a relaxing and productive weekend.

Today I wanted to share the rest of the pictures from our trip to Florida this week!

Tuesday afternoon we rode the bikes around the island some more.

We dreamed of buying one of these beauties 😉

This is part of the Inn… so pretty.

The BEST part of Gasparilla Island/Boca Grande is the culture surrounding the dogs on the island.  So many places are dog friendly and people are always taking walks with their pups or riding around on their golfcarts with their dogs.  It is the cutest thing.

We had to have snacks in the afternoon.

We left early for dinner to go to the beach to watch the sunset.

It was a really really good idea!

Sometimes you just need a selfie on the back of the golfcart!!

My husband loves to match me 😉

Almost down.

Love this man.

We headed over to Eagle Grille at the marina on the water for dinner.

I got a delicious salad with seared tuna on top.  So good!

My husband just had to get this chocolate cake for dessert.

That about wraps up our trip to Florida!  It was so fun and we already can’t wait to go back again!!  It is nice to be home with our pups though!

  1. Do you prefer the sunrise or sunset?
  2. Favorite way to see a new town? Run, walk, bike, bus, golfcart?
  3. Are you doing anything for the Superbowl on Sunday?

Florida Day 4

Good morning guys! And happy Thursday!  Hey, it is almost the weekend!  We made it back to Dallas yesterday and I had every intention of posting, but after a 2 hour drive to the airport, 2 and a half hour flight, picking up the dogs, grocery shopping, unpacking and organizing, I was wiped.  After a good night of sleep, I am feeling refreshed!

Back to the Florida fun!!  Tuesday morning started with another run around town.  There is just something about being at the beach that makes me want to run and run and run some more.  I loved all my morning runs!

Followed by a big bowl of fruit, ofcourse!

I just can’t get enough!

Shortly after we drove to a new to us restaurant for brunch!

Take 1

Take 2

Take 3

Take 4…. hey, we tried! 😉

The restaurant is the Outlet at the Innlet.

We started with coffee!

I wasn’t starving so I opted for an omelette with spinach and mushrooms.

My husband got this HUGE breakfast sandwich.

With a blueberry pancake on the side that was bigger than my head. 🙂

After brunch, we went for a little bike ride…

That landed us at the beach.

We lounged in the sunshine.

The lighthouse.

So pretty.

The water was a little cold!!

Can’t get enough of this beautiful place!

This guy isn’t so bad either 😉

Me and the hubs.

See you all tomorrow for the last night of our vacation! Have a great rest of your Thursday!

  1. Do you prefer the beach or the mountains?
  2. Do you like going out to brunch or dinner better?
  3. What is one yummy thing you ate yesterday?

Florida Day 3!

Good morning!!  I am getting ready for a run this morning before we head to brunch!  I’ll leave you with some pictures from our Monday in Florida, which ended up being a lot of food pictures.

Big bowl of bananas, melon and blueberries for breakfast!

And some coffee on the front porch!

Then we set out for a long bike ride around the island.  My husband programmed his drone to follow us so we were quite the site to see 😉  I’ll post the pictures from the drone later this week.

Lunch was a big salad with walnuts, avocado, and balsamic dressing and a big side of grapes!

I could eat this lunch every day.

Then I did some lounging in the backyard.  It was about 81 so it was perfect.

Ofcourse, we have to have some snacks.

We decided to have dinner at home last night instead of going out.  I made a big salad of arugula, strawberries, walnuts, and avocado with balsamic dressing.

And we grilled some salmon.

We made green beans and sweet potato fries to go on the side.  It was delicious!

We ended the night with some chocolate while watching It’s Complicated.  Have you guys seen this movie?? It’s so good!

I am off for a run before brunch!  I hope you all have a fantastic Tuesday!!

  1. Have you seen the movie It’s Complicated?
  2. Do you like coffee? How do you drink it?
  3. Do you workout when you are on vacation?

Florida day 2!

Good morning!  I hope your weekend was great and your Monday is off to a good start! Fortunately, we are still enjoying the Florida sunshine.  We are off to go on a run then go rent bikes for the day!

The rest of Sunday consisted of long walks.

Golf cart rides.

and board games.

Did I tell you our golf cart for the week is named Barbie? 🙂

Oh, and there was a lot of drone flying going on at the beach too!  Pictures to come later!

I love all the pretty trees here.

Isn’t this street so beautiful with the trees that create an arch?

Apparently, people actually get married here underneath these beautiful trees.

I love jackets with the thumb holes in them!

Lunch was a salad and my leftover sweet potato!

More walking!

Spotted this cute cat.

And the beautiful ocean again.

So many beautiful views on the island.

Hummus and crackers and cucumbers for a snack.

How cute is this sign for wet clothing after being at the beach?

More snaps from my sister of the pups!! Love the updates!

We went to dinner at the Pink Elephant and my husband ordered a jalapeno margarita and when it arrived we both died laughing because it was pink!!  I had to get a picture…. but it took quite a few takes.

Okay, that will do.  🙂

For dinner I got the grilled swordfish with roasted brussels sprouts and asparagus.  It was heavenly!!

Off to go for a run then bike around the island!  Have a great Monday!

  1. What was your favorite part of the weekend?
  2. Do you like spicy drinks?
  3. Do you do any biking?

Hi from Florida!

Hi yall!  I hope you are having an amazing weekend, we sure are over here!  We are about to go to the beach so my husband can fly his drone (yes, he brought the drone to Florida…).  But first, let’s back up a day or two and I’ll show you what we have been up to!

Saturday morning started bright and early with a treadmill run before I dropped the dogs off at my sister and her boyfriend’s apartment (so thankful they watch our pups!) before we got ready and headed to the airport for our flight.

I always travel with plenty of snacks… airport snacks are so expensive and can be very unhealthy… hey, you never know if your flight will be delayed. My favorite snacks are bananas, apples, almonds, dates, think thin bars, coconut chips, and ofcourse gum!

After our quick flight, we grabbed the rental car and made the hour and a half drive to Boca Grande. The views on the drive were so pretty.

I am his favorite passenger 😉

Once we arrived to the house, we went on a walk around the island.

We took a little stroll in the Gasparilla Inn (a super nice hotel) and walked past the fire department.

Had a little snack of green grape and walnuts.

Our cute little room for our stay!

We took a ride on the golfcart to dinner… I got the backseat… not a smart move when my husband is driving. 🙂

We went to a restaurant called The Temptation and it was beyond delicious.

I got the tuna on a seaweed salad and it came with a side of roasted parmesean cauliflower and a baked sweet potato.  Best tuna I have ever had!!

The cutest snapchats from my sister of the pups.  Callie loves her cousin Otis.

Got in a long run this morning! 5 miles done!

Chopped up some melon!

I had a yummy post-run breakfast of fruit (grapes, melon, and blueberries) and scrambled eggs (1 egg, 2 egg whites) with spinach and avocado.  And ofcourse, coffee.

Off to enjoy the sunshine!  Have a wonderful Sunday!!

  1. What are you doing today?
  2. Did you workout this weekend?
  3. What are your favorite travel snacks?
