A Sweet Little Date Night to Break Up the Week

Hey friends!!! How was your weekend?  Mine was so wonderful and I will get more into that with a weekend recap later this week!

I don’t know about you, but sometimes it feels like the work week is never ending.  I am not one to have a ton of plans during the week (I like my time to relax with a book or a good show), but sometimes a night out during the week is good for the soul.

My husband and I were debating buying a season ticket package for the Nashville Predators this year and we ended up going for it.  I look at it as pre-planned date nights that break up the monotony of the work week.

On Thursday night we headed to a new sushi restaurant on the way to downtown for a quick dinner before the game. Thursday nights call for a some cocktails!

We got a few rolls to try… can you tell which ones are mine?  🙂 I loved that this sushi restaurant offered the option of brown rice rolls instead of white rice.

IMG_6889

We were a little worried when the Dallas Stars scored pretty quickly into the first period.

IMG_6890

But in true Predators fashion…. we came back and won the game!

IMG_6893

We also ran into my favorite kiddo.  I just love my baby bro!

We met up with him during both intermissions and watched him shoot some goals!

We left the game pretty happy!

IMG_6911

Boy do I have a story for you guys.  My husband (bless his heart) loves public transportation.  I mean don’t get me wrong, I love it in cities like New York and Chicago, but Nashville does not have great options so we usually just Uber everywhere we go.  Well Thursday night my husband had the bright idea to take the city bus home from the game.  We wait for about 20 minutes (we realized they only come every 30 minutes later in the evening and ended up running down the street after it to make it stop.  😉  We fought over who got to pull the cord to signal our stop, but we did finally make it home a little later. 🙂

IMG_6909

I just have to show you guys these pictures of my cousin’s little boy.  My mom spent the week in Long Island with my aunt, cousin, her husband and their precious baby boy.  I hope my mom got out all of her baby fever while she was there. 😉

Questions:

  1. If you have kids, how many do you have?
  2. What is your favorite date night activity?
  3. Since Halloween is later this month, what is your favorite type of candy?

Labor Day Weekend Recap 9.4.17 Family Fun at Lake Burton

Hey guys!! How are you?  How was your long weekend?  We made it back from the lake Monday afternoon, but had the best weekend away.  We left Friday after work for my in-law’s lake house in Georgia with my dad, brother, our pups and my mother-in-law.  We got in late on Friday night and went straight to bed.

On Saturday morning, we took a walk with the pups then hit the lake!!  Our dogs aren’t spoiled at all….

IMG_6505

This little munchkin did some tubing!!

IMG_6513

And made a new friend at the marina after he got some ice cream!  I am still trying to convince him that dogs are better than cats… he disagrees.

IMG_6507

Saturday afternoon we played some ping pong and took turns on the kayaks in the cove before loading up on the boat with some drinks and appetizers for a little sunset cruise!

IMG_6533

The pups were pretty happy they got to tag along. 🙂

IMG_6534

My dad and brother.

IMG_6547

My dad tried all day long to catch a fish and finally did later Saturday evening!

IMG_6510

Sunday morning we all piled in the car and headed to a nearby trail for a short hike!

IMG_6496

The short hike led to a beautiful waterfall!

IMG_6498

Me, my brother, and my daddy!

IMG_6499

After our hike, we hung out on the boathouse for a while before taking out the jetskis!  Jacob couldn’t get enough!  He likes to go fast!!!  My dad last about 5 minutes. 🙂

IMG_6502

We had such a nice relaxing weekend filled with lots of fun activities and fun family time, but we were all a little tired when we got home on Monday.  Riley headed straight for a nap with his “friends.” 😉

IMG_6509

Later that night he decided I was a better pillow. 🙂  I just can’t get enough of this pup! Don’t you guys worry… Callie gets all the love too… she was probably just hiding in a corner during this picture… she is a funny one. 🙂

IMG_6554

That about sums up our weekend at the lake!  We are so fortunate our families get along so well and we can all be together on long holiday weekends!! I hope you guys all had a fun and relaxing weekend as well!! I will be back later this week for my final two recaps of our trip to Hawaii!!

Questions:

  1. Did you travel anywhere for Labor Day?
  2. What was the best meal you had this weekend?
  3. Did you get to do any outdoor activities this weekend? Lake? Pool? Hike?

Maui Ocean Center and the Haleakala Crater at Sunset

Hey guys!! How was is your Labor Day weekend going?  I am soaking up the last few hours of vacation in Georgia before heading back to Nashville.  Today I am continuing on with my recap of our Hawaiian vacation!

We heard great things about the Maui Ocean Center and since we were staying so close to it, we walked over one morning to explore.  We got to see all different types of fish.

IMG_6293

Swimming in the coral.

img_6294.jpg

My favorites are the colorful ones.  I said, “That orange one looks like nemo.”  My little brother was quick to let me know that the orange fish was in fact NOT nemo. 🙂

More turtles up close!

img_6302.jpg

There was a tunnel you walk through that is surrounded by a tank filled with sharks!

IMG_6304

Eeeek!  A little too close for comfort!

The sign we are all making in the picture below is “shaka” which is the Hawaiin sign for hang loose or aloha.

IMG_6485

Another activity we knew we wanted to do in Maui was drive to the top of the Haleakala Crater.  The best time to go is either sunrise or sunset.  Since the sunrise spots fill up quickly, we opted for the sunset drive and a little more sleep in the morning (it is about a 2 hours drive up so you have to get up around 3am to make it there on time).  We saw this pretty rainbow on the drive.

IMG_6381

In about 2 hours you drive from sea level to 10,000 feet in elevation above the clouds!!

IMG_6382

The roads are windy and small so if you get car sick, you should take some Dramamine.

IMG_6449

We drove up and up and up and finally made it to this parking lot where visitors come to watch the sunset.

IMG_6336

We actually hiked up another 10 or 15 minutes to be at an even high vantage point.  If I hadn’t been there I would think these pictures were fake!

IMG_6371

It was easily the highlight of our trip and the most beautiful view I have ever seen!

Jonny and I at the top!

IMG_6375

IMG_6334

IMG_6383

I could look at these pictures all day.   Nature is so beautiful.

Questions:

  1. Have you ever been to a volcano before?
  2. Do you prefer sunrise or sunset?
  3. How was your Labor Day weekend?

Trip to Maui continued… When in Hawaii, You Must Attend a Traditional Luau

Woo!! Its Friday!!! Who else is doing a happy dance today?  I am hoping today flies by quickly so we can get out vacation at the lake started!  Speaking of vacations… I am continuing on today with my recap of our vacation to Hawaii!

When we first began planning our trip to Hawaii we immediately that we wanted to attend a traditional luau.  Unfortunately with our lack of preparation, all of the best luaus were all booked up.  But, fortunately we were able to get on a waiting list and we found out the day before that there was availability for us the following evening!

We read all the reviews online and were able to get a table at the Old Lahaina Luau.  We were on our way!

IMG_6448

We were greeted with mai tai’s (the traditional Hawaiian drink) when we got there.

IMG_6323

It is hard to see in this picture, but my sister and I were given little white flowers that we were to put behind our right ears symbolizing that we were taken.  If you are single, you put the flower behind your left ear.

IMG_6480

My sweet little brother and his juice “mocktail.”

IMG_6466

We all got as festive as possible for the luau! 🙂

IMG_6464

We were given our leis and we headed to the beach for some bright pictures. 😉

IMG_6385

Me and my sissy.

IMG_6479

My sweet man.

My dad and bro in their cute matching shirts.

IMG_6469

We ate a buffet style dinner with all the local Hawaiian dishes (so yummy) and had some yummy drinks too.  After dinner we relaxed and watched the show.  They performed many traditional Hawaiian dances and chants.  It was really fun to see!

IMG_6460

By the end, we were exhausted!  I think we all fell asleep in the Uber ride home. 😉

I am off to get this day started!!  I hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!!!

Questions:

  1. What is your favorite cuisine?
  2. What are your plans for Labor Day weekend?
  3. What are you having for breakfast today?

Vacation in Maui Continued… The Road to Hana

Good morning!!!  How are you guys doing today?  I am thankful we are getting close to the weekend…although it feels like I still have quite a bit to do before then.  Today I am going to recap the next part of our Hawaiian vacation!

On Monday morning we had planned to wake up early and get on the road to tackle the Road to Hana .  We knew this would be a long day, but after some research we knew this definitely had to be on our itinerary.

Hana is a very small little town, but there is a reason they say to do the “road to Hana.” This adventure reminds me of the saying, “It is not about the destination, it’s about the journey.”  The road is beautiful and windy and lush.  It is even a little scary at times.  There are tons of stops along the way with short hikes, waterfalls, caves, and other sites to see.  We packed a cooler full of snacks and drinks and headed out around 9am.  Our first stop was this overlook with HUGE turtles and great surfing.  No, we didn’t surf.. we just watched!

IMG_6251

The next stop was this short little hike to a couple water falls.

IMG_6256

We opted for the easy hike after we realized the hard one included crossing a creek.  We are adventurous, but not that adventurous. 😉

Sweet Jacob helping dad.

IMG_6255

The boys.

The next stop was a beautiful lookout with huge rocks and waves crashing on them.

IMG_6260

It was a little bit bright out. 🙂

Admiring the beauty and throwing rocks.

Love my sister and my brother.

IMG_6279

We remind him how lucky he is to have two sisters at every chance we get. 😉

IMG_6280

Us with our boys.

IMG_6281

IMG_6282

The next stop was this little park.  Doesn’t this picture look fake?

IMG_6285

IMG_6286

The “kids.”

IMG_6365

Dad and his kiddos.

IMG_6289

Me and Jonny.

IMG_6456

The park had stairs down to a beautiful beach with a cave.  So neat!

IMG_6447

We stopped at a few more places along the way with waterfalls and swimming holes.  It was truly an amazing experience.  We made it all the way to Hana (about 2 hours with no stops) and had lunch at a little cafe on the beach.  We ate poke (raw fish – tuna) and burgers and then piled in the car for the long ride back through the curvy roads.  If you ever make it to Maui, I highly recommend this tourist attraction!  I will be back soon with more Hawaii recaps!!

I want to take a minute to say thank you to all my readers!  This blog is a huge passion of mine and I just love seeing your comments and reading your blogs (to all the other bloggers who come to my page).  I really enjoy sharing my life with you and although it has been quite sporadic since our move to Nashville this year and transitioning jobs, I try my hardest to be consistent with my posting.  If there is anything you would like to know about me or if you have a topic you would like me to post about, I am all ears!  I love getting feedback and am happy to hear any suggestions!!  I hope you all have a wonderful day!! XOXOXO

Questions:

  1. Do you like car rides? Or do you prefer to travel by plane?
  2. What is your favorite road trip snack?
  3. Have you ever tried poke or ceviche?

Aloha!!! Recap of our Trip to Maui Part 1!

Good morning!!!  Well I promised you a recap of my recent trip to Hawaii so here it is!  We have been thinking about taking a family trip to Hawaii for a few years now and it was finally time to turn this idea into action!  We decided that since we would just be there for one week, we would just stay in Maui the whole time so we didn’t have to do any more traveling when we got there!

My husband had a bachelor party in Chicago the weekend we had planned to leave for Hawaii so he headed up there Thursday while I stayed in Nashville until my flight early Saturday morning.  I took a 4 and a half hour flight to LA then connected on a 5 hour flight to Maui.  It was a longggg day!  But Maui is 5 hours ahead of Nashville so it was just one really long day.  I made it until 8 pm (2 am Nashville time) then I passed out hard.

My dad and little brother arrived a week before us so they picked me up at the airport with a lei! 🙂  We headed to the condo we rented for the week, which was right on the beach. 🙂

After unpacking I got to spend some time with my favorite 10 year old. 🙂

IMG_6208

After a little while we took a short little walk on the beach.  The weather was amazing the entire time we were there!

IMG_6213

My husband, sister and her boyfriend arrived later Saturday night.  I was already asleep by the time they got in.  With the early bed time and the time change, I was up at 5 am the next day.  We slept with the windows open and awoke to the waves cravings.  It was so peaceful.

IMG_6219

Sunday during the day we just hung out at the beach.  Aren’t my siblings the cutest? 🙂

The boys.  My little brother really loves having my husband and my sister’s boyfriend around.  They love to play video games and do boy stuff with him. 😉

IMG_6320

Love my sweet siblings.

IMG_6398

Sunday night we had plans to go out to dinner before our evening activity.  We chose Mala Ocean Tavern and it did not disappoint.  I got a teriyaki dish with rice, veggies and fish.

We caught the beautiful sunset outside the restaurant before we left.

IMG_6443

All the “kids.”  🙂

IMG_6272

Dad and his kids.

IMG_6273

Me and the hubs. 🙂

IMG_6475

After dinner we headed over to the Hyatt Regency for the Tour of the Stars.  We got to go on top of the building and see all the stars through the huge telescopes.  We even got to see the international space station flying by while we were up there!  It was really a neat thing to get to experience!

IMG_6275

I will stop here and pick up here next time!!  I hope you all have an amazing day!!

Questions:

  1. Have you ever been to Hawaii?
  2. Where is one place you want to travel?
  3. Did you get to see the eclipse?

A Weekend Without Plans Turned into a Weekend With ALL the Plans :)

Hi friends!!  How are you guys?  I can’t believe another week has come and gone and the weekend is upon us!  It seems like time is just flying by right now and I am ready for it to slooooow down.

After a long weekend of traveling for the 4th, I was ready for a quiet weekend at home with no plans.  You all probably know by now that my husband and I have moved around quite a bit with his job.  We have lived in Utah, Ohio, Dallas, and now Tennessee.  Each and everywhere we go it always takes awhile to find some good friends, especially ones that we will stay in touch with when we inevitably move again.  Well, Nashville is different than all the former places we have lived.  Since I grew up here, some of my best friends from middle school and high school still live here and quite frankly, it is just an attractive place for young couples to live so we have several friends that have moved here by choice.  This has made our transition to Nashville easier knowing we already had some friends in the area.

This also means that there is always something going on.  But hey, I am not complaining in the least.  We are so very lucky to already have some great friends in the area who invite us out and introduce us to their friends.  That being said, last weekend did not end up being a weekend without plans. 🙂

Friday night we went to a new-to-us restaurant called Answer with my husband’s college roommate and his fiance.  While we did have quite the wait, it was well worth it.  I got the trout and it was amazing!

IMG_5966

Saturday morning we were up bright and early with these two cuties.

IMG_5968

We took a nice walk to the local coffee shop for some iced lattes (it was already SO hot) to cool us off.

After we got home and got in a quick workout, I headed to my mom’s to hang with her by the pool for a couple hours.  We read, chatted, and ate some lunch and before I knew it, I had to run home and pick up Jon to head to a friend’s pool.  We spent a couple hours in the sun relaxing before heading home to get ready for dinner.

I’ve probably told yall before, but my husband could eat sushi for every meal.  If I agree to sushi, I win the wife of the year award so Saturday night, he got his wish.  We went to a casual dinner and went home and straight to bed afterwards. 🙂

IMG_5993

Sunday morning started off with a workout and a walk with the pups followed by a cold smoothie!  This one had spinach, flaxseed, peanut butter, banana, cinnamon, ice and almond milk.  I got the beautiful hydrangeas from my momma’s house.  Aren’t they pretty?  I’m going to try to grow my own… we will see how that goes.  I can barely keep herbs alive so my track record isn’t very good. 😉

IMG_5973

Sunday afternoon we had some plans with the couple we hung out with Friday night.  Jon got flyboarding lessons for two for his birthday so he decided this was the weekend to do it.  Have you guys ever heard of flyboarding?

IMG_5987

Riley tagged along and was quite concerned when Jon was heading out.

IMG_5986

He got over that pretty quickly when he found sticks to fetch in the water.

IMG_5990

Flyboarding is like wakeboarding in that you have a board attached to boots your feet go in, but instead of riding on the water, you ride above it.  The jetski shoots water up to your feet and pushes you out of the water.

IMG_5989

How cool is that?!?!

IMG_5992

Sunday night my dad and brother came over for dinner.

IMG_5977

We spent lots of time hanging outside and playing darts!

We grilled up lots of veggies, chicken sausages, and chicken breasts for dinner.  Grilling is my favorite when we have company.. it’s so easy and delicious!

IMG_5976

This is how we all felt on Monday morning. 🙂  Riley is obsessed with these stuffed animals and plays and naps with them daily.  Too cute!

IMG_5961

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!  We have some visitors in town!  I will see you all next week!

Questions:

  1. Have you ever heard of flyboarding?  Tried it?
  2. Do your plans to have no plans always turn into plans?  (try saying that 3 times fast!)
  3. What is one thing you would like to do before the summer is over?
