Weekend Recap 2.20.18 …. A Late Valentines Day Celebration, Hockey Games, and Fun Night With Friends

Good morning friends!!!  I hope you all had a great weekend and are feeling ready for the week ahead!  I got to bed later than normal last night, but I am still feeling pretty good this morning!  I know a lot of people hate Mondays (I do sometimes too), but usually they are a fresh start for me and I like that feeling.  Mondays are good days for me when I have completed my weekend to-do list and I feel prepared for the week.  I spent some time meal prepping, cleaning, and getting a few items checked off the to-do this yesterday so this Monday has started out great!

This weekend was a mix of relation and fun.  We didn’t have many plans and I was a-okay with that.  It is nice to not have committed to something and be able to make a last minute decision if I am feeling up to doing something on the weekend.  On Friday night though, I did have plans for a low key dinner out with my husband to celebrate Valentine’s Day since I was out of town for work on the actual day.  We had reservations for dinner at City Fire in the Gulch.  But before we left I was surprised with some flowers, a sweet card, and a new candle.  I am currently obsessed with candles!

We realized our reservation was during happy hour so I opted for a glass of wine and my hubby got a girly cocktail. 🙂

I got the ahi tuna salad and it was fantastic.  My husband got the trout with cheesy grits and polished his entire plate.  Needless to say, we were both so happy with our meals!  After dinner we headed home to watch a movie before bed.  It was the perfect date night.

On Saturday afternoon we went to watch my little brother play in a hockey tournament.

IMG_7737

He is so precious and I just love watching him celebrate when his team scores.  It is SO cute.  He turns 11 next month and I am going to cry just thinking about it.  #nevergrowup

They won their game on Saturday!!!!!!!

IMG_7740

Such a cute group of kiddos!

IMG_7741

After the game, my husband had plans with his little brother from Big Brothers Big Sisters to attend a sporting event so I took the time to relax at home with my pups.  Riley wanted to play fetch all evening.  His toy got stuff underneath this table and he just sat their whining and whining until I got it out.  They always want the toy they can’t get to. 🙂

IMG_7742

My husband went out to dinner with his little brother so I opted for a quick, easy meal of mahi and roasted sweet potatoes and asparagus.  We get the frozen mahi filets from Costco that have a yummy marinade on them.  We love them!

IMG_7744

After a walk with the dogs and a quick workout on Sunday morning, we headed back to the ice rink to watch my little brother’s team compete in the championship.  They tied, then went into over time and then lost in a shootout.  It was intense, but such a great game.  I like ice skating, but I am not the best (to say the least), but I can’t imagine having to control a puck and skate at the same time.  I can’t multitask like that. 😉

IMG_7745

After his game, my husband and I took my daddy out to lunch at Jacksons in Hillsboro Village.  I had the ahi tuna bowl with veggies and it was really good!  I just realized I ate a lot of tuna this weekend.  🙂

IMG_7746

After lunch my husband and I popped into a couple of the cute shops in Hillsboro Village before running some errands at Target and World Market.  After a little bit of shopping, we put  down the roof on our convertible and took it for a spin on the back roads of Tennessee.  It was a beautiful day for a joy ride!

IMG_7748

After we got home, we ate a quick dinner before heading out around 7pm to meet a few of our friends for some drinks and games at Clydes. We spent most of the evening playing shuffleboard, which was super fun.  It was nice to get out on a Sunday for once!

That about wraps up my weekend!!  I hope you all have a great week!!

Questions:

  1. What was the highlight of your weekend?
  2. Do you have work today on Presidents Day? I do, but my husband has off.

Weekend Recap 2.11.18 Weekend in Dallas with a Surprise Visitor!

Good morning!!!!  How was your weekend??  I got back yesterday morning from a long weekend in Dallas visiting my sister, her boyfriend, and their pups!  It was such a fun weekend that went by way too fast.

My husband goes on an annual ski trip with his friends so I decided I would visit my sister while he was away.  After I booked my flight, I suggested to my mom that she should come with me and surprise my sister.  She agreed and although we had the hardest time ever keeping the secret from my sister, we pulled it off!!  We headed to the airport on Thursday evening and after we got our bags, I headed out to my sister’s car at the airport.  Then I told her she needed to turn back and that is when she saw my mom waiting a few doors down!  It was the best Surprise  ever!!!  I uploaded the video to my youtube page if you want to see it!!

Little Murphy, my sister and her boyfriend’s puppy.  He is absolutely wild and so much fun. 🙂

IMG_7676

On Friday morning, my sister, her boyfriend, and I had plans to go to a 7am workout class at Beyond.  It was SO hard.  Half of the class is on the curved, self-propelled treadmills and half of the class is strength training intervals.  We were all drenched by the end.

IMG_7678

After our workout we headed home to shower and get ready for the day.  We ran a few errands, got our nails done and then did a LOT of shopping.  🙂

IMG_7701

IMG_7681

My sister made us some yummy quinoa salads for lunch and then we went to the dog park once my sister’s boyfriend got off work.  It was a beautiful day out on Friday!

IMG_7685

Little Murphy always up to something.

IMG_7688

On Friday night we decided to stay in for dinner.  My sister and her boyfriend made the most delicious salmon and veggies for us.

IMG_7690

We played a few games of Spite & Malice.  Have yall played this before?  It is one of our favorites.

IMG_7692

After a few games, we headed to a nearby frozen yogurt place for a sweet treat!  My mom and I split a chocolate froyo with some yummy toppings. 🙂

IMG_7693

On Saturday morning, my sister, her boyfriend, and I went to  One Lagree for a workout class.  It is on the mega reformer and it was SO hard!! It was my first time and I really loved it, but I am really feeling it today still!  I am so sore!

IMG_7695

IMG_7697

After our workout we decided to just take it easy the rest of the day since the weather was cold and rainy.  My mom, sister, and Max went to get doughnuts and I lounged with the pups and read my book. 🙂

IMG_7702

Me and little Otis!

IMG_7703

My mom brought me this book on Thursday to read during our flights and I finished it on our Sunday morning flight.  I don’t think I have ever read a book that fast.  It was such an easy read and it was really good!! I highly recommend it!

IMG_7712

Murphy loves to lay on top of Otis.  Whenever Otis lays down, Murphy has to lay on him.  It is so funny.

IMG_7706

Saturday afternoon was spent cleaning out my sister’s closet.  We got rid of a bunch of clothes to donate and I also got some new clothes of out it. 🙂

IMG_7708

Saturday night we had dinner reservations, but decided to cancel and order take out instead.  My mom and Max got pizza and my sister and I got pok.  I got tuna with mango, edamame, garlic, carrots, kelp noodles and kale.  It was amazingggg!

IMG_7709

After dinner my sister, her boyfriend and I went to meet my sister’s friend for a quick drink to celebrate her birthday.  I forgot to take any pictures, but it was fun catching up with them!  After that we headed back home to watch a movie with my mom and hang with the doggies!!!

I had such a fun time in Dallas hanging with my sister and her boyfriend and their cute pups!!  I really miss living so close to them, but it is nice being just a short plane ride away!!  I am already counting down the days until we head to Dallas for both of their grad school graduations in May (they are both smartie pants!!).

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend and have a nice week ahead!!

Weekend Recap 2.5.18… Girls Night, Baking, Baby Shower, Night Out and Super Bowl Party

Hey friends!! How are you all doing?  Did you have trouble waking up today after the Super Bowl like me?  Mondays always come a little too quickly, but especially after a later than usual bedtime.

How was your weekend?  Ours was pretty packed with lots of activities on the agenda!

My husband takes Callie to work most days of the week (Riley wants to play constantly so doesn’t get to go as often) and last week he sent me this snapchat of Callie.  This is her chair and she only leaves it to go outside. 😉

IMG_7598

Last week my husband and I finished up a new house project that I have been wanting for awhile.  We made this ladder shelf for our master bathroom.  I think it turned out pretty well!

IMG_7595

I have been trying to take more epsom salt baths because my back has been feeling pretty miserable lately.  Now we have all the bath essentials out and ready for use! I got most of them at World Market.  That store is dangerous!

Friday night my girlfriends, Rachael and Bridget, came over for a girls night with drinks and appetizers!  We had a blast just catching up and laughing for a few hours.   Girl time is good for the soul!

IMG_7625

Saturday morning began bright and early with a tabata workout with my momma at 7am!  We were both dying by the end!! Afterwards we tested out a new breakfast cookie recipe that we have been wanting to try!

IMG_7615

The recipe calls for one big cookie, but we decided to quadruple it and make them into small, snack-size cookies!  They contain gf oats, vanilla, extract, unsweetened coconut flakes, almonds, dark chocolate chips, almond butter and cocoa powder.  They are pretty tasty!  We individually wrapped them up and stuck them in the freezer for an easy, yummy snack!

IMG_7614

After a our workout and baking, I got cleaned up and headed to my friend Dana’s baby shower!

IMG_7616

She is expecting a sweet little baby boy early this summer so it was fun to see all the baby boy details!

The host had us play a few fun games like matching baby phrases to candy bar names, matching animals to the baby animal name, finishing nursery rhymes, and finishing the phrase that mommy is thinking.  It was super fun!

Love this sweet friend of mine and had a blast showering her and her baby boy with all the cute baby things!!  Such a special day!

On Saturday evening we had plans for dinner and a party with some of our friends.  We decided on Nickys Coal Fired  for dinner.

IMG_7626

I decided on two veggie appetizers for my meal and they did not disappoint!  I got the cauliflower dish and the squash dish and both were equally decadent and delicious!

The whole group!  We laughed after seeing this picture with the chefs in the background. 😉

IMG_7633

After dinner we headed to a nearby warehouse for a big birthday celebration for a handful of friends.  Rachael and I had actually been to a few parties here in high school (sorry, mom!) so it was hilarious to think about the good ole days.  The boys got in a few games of beer pong, there was a dj, a fog machine, and a bunch of 30 year olds partying like we were still in high school.  It was a blast!

IMG_7629

On Sunday we slept in, took the dogs on a nice long walk, worked out and then began prepping for our little Super Bowl Party with friends and family.  We made a white bean dip, baked brie, smoked salmon platter, football cupcakes, a 7 layer dip, cheddar cheese stuffed bread bites, deviled eggs, veggies and more!

IMG_7637

Our friends brought vegan nachoes, another cheesy dip, and pizza bread!  I made this edamame salad, but subbed lima beans for the edamame and it was a big hit!  We had to have at least one healthy dish. 😉

IMG_7638

Our friends, Rachael, Eric, Boomer, and Katelin came… along with my dad, mom, stepdad, and Rachael’s parents.  It was a fun group!

IMG_7648

And ofcourse all the pups made an appearance!  Even little Cooper, Rachael and Eric’s pup, got to join the party!

IMG_7647

Sweet babies!

IMG_7649

Although none of us really cared about either team, we had fun watching the game and the commercials.  I heard a rumor that it now costs $5 million for 30 seconds of advertising during the Super Bowl.  I remember when it cost $1 million for 30 seconds of advertising and thinking that was insane.  How crazy is that?!?!

IMG_7641

My momma sneaking snacks to the pups. 🙂

IMG_7639

During half time we headed upstairs to watch Justin Timberlake’s performance and get in a few games of ping pong.  I actually beat my mom for the first time ever!  She is really good!!

IMG_7642

Sweet Callie girl enjoyed people watching and snuggling with anyone who would pet her. 🙂

IMG_7645

This weekend was full of fun with family and friends and that is the perfect weekend to me!  I love living near family and getting to hang out with them regularly.  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend too!  I would love to hear about your weekend in the comments!! xoxoxo

Questions:

  1. How was your weekend? What did you do?
  2. Did you watch the Super Bowl?  Who were you rooting for?
  3. Favorite Super Bowl snack?

Weekend Recap 1.27.18 Hockey, Projects, and A Night Out

Hey friends! How’s it going?  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  Mine started a little early with a fun night out with my dad last week for the Predators game!  We went to dinner at Amerigos before the game and it was so yummy!  Then we headed downtown to the arena.  It was an amazing game.  The Preds were winning 3 to 2 until a few minutes to go.

IMG_7564

But then the other team scored and it went into overtime and the Preds lost. 😦 . But it is always a good time with my daddy!

IMG_7566

I am all about home projects these days and since our house was brand new when we bought it, we haven’t had to do many projects.  So I have been coming up with new small projects for my husband and I to do together and the most recent one was building a ladder shelf like these ones.  We started and finished it this weekend so once it is all set up I will show you guys!!

These 3 are my everything.  I just love them so much. 🙂

IMG_7579

Since moving into our new home in Nashville, I have been working out at home instead of at a gym and I LOVE it.  It is so nice to not have to worry about crowds, traffic, and time commuting.  Every time I do a wall sit, Callie comes over to give me a hug (and some extra weight). 🙂

IMG_0017

I think I have shown you guys this bench that my husband and his brother made for our front porch, but this past weekend I finally got around to putting a few coats of poly on it, which gives it a nice shine and will protect it from harsh weather.   I just love it!

IMG_7574

On Friday night my dad and little brother invited Jon and I out to dinner at Amerigos and we couldn’t say no!  Ofcourse I forgot to take any pictures, but we had a blast catching up with them!

Yall, don’t make fun of me, but I did yoga this past weekend at my house and ouch.  I am SO not flexible at all.  I never have been, but since taking yoga out of my workout routine, I have lost all flexibility that I did gain over the last few years.  I am going to make a point of doing yoga a couple times a week because I do notice that my back feels a lot better when I stretch regularly.

IMG_0015

Our Sunday started with a workout and lots of cleaning around the house.  In the afternoon we headed to World Market (we got a big Costco run in too, which is my favorite!) to do some shopping for our new shelf before heading to dinner with my mom and stepdad at Antonios.

IMG_0018

I got the grilled salmon and it was delicious… probably due to all the butter on it!! 😉

IMG_7581

After dinner we had plans to see Father Gregory Boyle speak about his book “Tattoos on the Heart.”  If you haven’t heard of him or his book, you should look him up and read his book.  It is a quick, easy read and it is fantastic.  He works with gang members in LA and helps them get jobs, tattoo removals, and helps them find a purpose to lead a better life.  He is truly amazing and his talk was wonderful too.

IMG_7584

I hope you all had a great weekend and have a wonderful rest of your week!!

Questions:

  1. What was the highlight of your weekend?
  2. What is the last book you read?
  3. What is one project you want to do around your house?

The Good Ole Days and A Chilly Visit to Florida

Good morning friends!!!!  How is your week going?  I am headed out of town for work so I am going to keep this short and sweet today!

I realized that I had not shared my adventures from a girls night out a couple weeks ago.  My bestie, Rachael, and I went to dinner before meeting up with the rest of the girls for a fun night out!  I won’t tell you the name of the restaurant, but we both ended up with horrible food poisoning.  As soon as my uber dropped me off at home that night, I ran to the bathroom to throw up.  It was awful.  Then I was up all night until 5 am throwing up about every 20 minutes.  You guys, I have never had food poisoning before and I NEVER want to have it again.  It is the worst!

IMG_7532

Before that disaster though, we had a really fun girls night!  We went to a show that had cover bands playing Christina Aguilera and Brittney Spears songs all night.  It was such a fun flashback to the good old days!

IMG_7539

This past Thursday morning we flew down to Orlando and drove another two hours to Vero Beach to see my in-laws!  They just bought a house down there and my husband and I went down to help them start the renovation process!

The first night we were there we went out for Italian at Vincents.

IMG_7545

I got the salmon (are you surprised?) and it was so so so yummy.  It had this incredible tomato sauce on it and it was just incredible!

IMG_7546

Friday morning we were all up and at em nice and early to make the drive to Boca Raton to pick up furniture from my husband’s grandma’s house.  This is the grandma we just lost right before Christmas.  My in-laws decided to use some of her furniture to furnish the house for renters.  So we loaded up the uhaul and two cars and were headed back to Vero.  We were all pretty exhausted by the end of the day.

IMG_7547

Friday night we went to Ocean Grill for dinner! I totally forgot to snap any pictures, but our meals were fantastic!!

IMG_7550

Saturday my husband and I took a long walk around town.

IMG_7552

We picked up some cupcakes for my father-in-law’s birthday and just strolled around taking in all the scenes.

We stumbled upon the Bark in the Park festival and just had to check it out.  We even got to see the doggies doing the dock jump!

IMG_7560

They were so cute!!

IMG_7562

Then we finished our long walk with a stroll on the beach.

IMG_7555

Even though it was a little chilly, it was still such a relaxing afternoon with no plans.

IMG_7556

On Saturday night we went to another local restaurant on the beach and all loved our meals again.  I love fresh seafood! And I sure do love this guy!!

IMG_7559

I really got lucky in the in-law department.  Mine are just the best!!

IMG_7557

It was such a quick and fun trip to Florida.  We got to see my in-laws and their new house and spend time relaxing.  I even started and finished an entire book while we were there!!!  It is so nice to have the time to read!  I hope you all had an amazing weekend too!!!

Questions:

  1. What did you do last weekend?
  2. Where is your favorite place to vacation?
  3. If you made any new years resolutions or goals, have you stuck to them?

Thanksgiving 2017 in Indianapolis

Hey friends!! How are you this morning? It is always hard to get back into the swing of things after a nice holiday break, but it sure feels good to be back in a routine.  We celebrated Thanksgiving this year in Indianapolis with my in-laws.  We switch each Thanksgiving and Christmas between my parents and my in-laws and it seems to work pretty well for us.  We are on the same schedule with my sister and her boyfriend/his parents so my parents either get all of us or none of us. 😉  This Christmas we will be in Nashville, which will also be the first time we haven’t had to travel for the holidays since living at home in high school. 🙂 I am pretty excited to get to enjoy our decorations this year and spend a little more time enjoying the holidays rather than traveling.

Last Wednesday we left for Indianapolis.  It is about a 4 and a half hour drive so it wasn’t bad at all.  We arrived to see our “agenda” on the nightstand.  My mother-in-law is the cutest.

IMG_7221

We had some soup for dinner at home and called it an early night.  Somehow both dogs and my husband ended up in my bed (my TWIN bed) for a movie to end the night.  I kinda love the snuggles though. 😉

IMG_7224

Thanksgiving morning we woke up bright and early to head to the annual Drumstick Dash.  The proceeds from the race go fight homelessness in Indy.  My brother-in-law and I ran while my husband, other brother-in-law, and mother-in-law walked.

IMG_7226

Thanksgiving day was spent just hanging around the house, watching movies and playing cards until it was time to start cooking.

IMG_7233

We only eat in the dining room on special occasions so that makes it kinda fun!

IMG_7230

This year we opted for a less traditional meal of surf and turf and lots of sides!  We made steak, lobster, scallops, a delicious salad (romaine, goat cheese, craisins, apples), green beans, roasted carrots, a mashed potato casserole and a sweet potato casserole!  We all agreed it was one of the best meals we have ever had!!

Riley is sporting a new look these days and he wanted to show ya’ll… 🙂

IMG_7246

Friday evening we headed downtown to the Pacers game!  It was a really close game and they ended up winning it right at the end!

IMG_7245

I am SO thankful for this guy.  He is my rock.

IMG_7249

As you can see I didn’t take as many pictures as usual.  I am really trying to focus on being more present and living in the moment.  We had such a fun time in Indy with family and I am already missing my mother-in-law’s amazing cooking.  🙂  We headed back to Nashville on Saturday afternoon to avoid the Sunday traffic and to have some time at home before heading back to work.  We cleaned the whole house, unpacked, did a few loads of laundry, did grocery shopping and meal prepping, completed some Christmas shopping and put up more decorations.  It is such a wonderful feeling going into a new week feeling refreshed and prepared!  I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving with your loved ones!!

Questions:

  1. What was the highlight of your Thanksgiving?
  2. What is your favorite Thanksgiving side dish?
  3. Do you travel each year for the holidays?

Better Late Than Never Weekend Recap 11.19.17

Hi there!  How was your Thanksgiving weekend?  Ours was wonderful!  We spent Thanksgiving in Indianapolis with my in-laws and had a great time!  I am working on a recap of our time in Indy, but in the mean time I am going to share pictures from the previous weekend.

My mom and I decided that our small gift to neighbors, friends, family and coworkers (my husband’s and mine) would be homemade Christmas cookies this year.  So we picked a couple Saturdays to put on the books for cooking baking!

We started last weekend and got about halfway done. 🙂

IMG_7179

Riley was waiting for the scraps. 😉

IMG_7190

This time of year really makes me miss my granny.  She and my mom baked Christmas cookies every year.  We still use a lot of her recipes with her precious handwriting.  I am so lucky to be able to carry on the tradition with my momma.

IMG_7192

Riley and I worked on putting together all of the boxes for the cookies.  It was no easy task. 😉

We made sure to shop for our in-laws early this year so we didn’t have to ship gifts.  That prompted me to shop for everyone so I started the wrapping last weekend too.  It sure is nice to get Christmas shopping done early so we can just enjoy the holiday season.

IMG_7182

We still have our pumpkins on our front porch, but we started decorating inside just a bit.  This will be the first year we have not had to travel for Christmas (we will be with my family for Christmas and since they live in Nashville we don’t have to travel to see them).  My sister and her boyfriend will come from Dallas with their two pups for the holiday and I can’t wait!!

My mom and I did lots of shopping for Christmas decorations last weekend (I can’t wait to shop you guys all of them once they are up!) and that included lots of lights!! I spent the rest of the weekend doing this…

IMG_7185

We took a little break from baking and decorating to go to Costco with my mom so we could get a membership!  We had one back when we lived in Cincinnati, but since then there has not been a convenient store location.  Thanks mom!

IMG_7188

Last Monday we tried a new-to-us restaurant called Whiskey Kitchen.  We had heard great things but just hadn’t had a chance to go.

I got the salmon that came with a yummy salad and green beans.  My husband got the fried tomato BLT and loved it too!

IMG_7200

After dinner we headed downtown for the Predators game.  They won! woo!!  A little date night on a Monday night is definitely a nice way to start the week!

That is all for today!  I will pop back in later this week to share pictures from our Thanksgiving!! I hope you all have a wonderful week!!

Questions:

  1. How was your Thanksgiving?
  2. Have you started shopping for the holidays?
  3. Do you do any annual baking during the holidays?
