Cancun, Mexico Couples Trip Part 3 … The FOOD!!!

Hey friends!!!

Today’s post will wrap up my recap of our trip to Cancun.  I saved the best for last because today is all about the FOOD!  When I typically think of an all-inclusive, I think of cafeteria-style food.  ugh!  But I promise you the food was anything but that!  It was spectacular!!  You will see why I went to the gym every morning after reading this post! 😉

Our typical morning began with a gym session followed by breakfast at the buffet.  I am not huge on breakfast food so I didn’t have a huge variety of foods, but what I did have was amazing.  They have a ton of fresh juice options and I always opted for the cactus/celery juice.  I know, I know… it sounds disgusting, but I promise it was amazing.  I also took this time to hydrate before being in the sun all day.  My favorite part of breakfast was the massive amount of fresh fruit available.  It was all so delicious and juicy.  I also stocked up on eggs either over easy or scrambled or both!  And to make my breakfast a little more festive, I topped my eggs with fresh guacamole and pico! yum!

IMG_7967

My bestie, Lissa, always watches our pups while we are out of town.  They absolutely love her and it is so reassuring to get pictures and updates during our trip letting us know how they are doing.  It gives me such piece of mind to know they are in good hands.

Lunch usually occurred around 2pm after a few hours at the pool.  The buffet was the lunch restaurant so we always tried to get a seat by the edge so we could people watch. 🙂

IMG_7929

My lunch usually involved more fresh fruit, a piece of fish (or 2) and lots of cooked veggies.  And more guac… always more guac!

IMG_7931

IMG_7930

For dinner we had the option of the buffet or 5 sit down restaurants.  We tried 3 of the sit down restaurants and had the buffet a couple of the nights for dinner.  The first night we went to the Japanese restaurant.

IMG_7904

IMG_7901

They brought out two of these sushi boards for us to start with and then we asked for two more.  Eeeekk.. it was so yummy.

IMG_7905

I got ahi tuna ceviche and it was amazing.

IMG_7906

I got the mahi for my entree, which was good as well.  I love fresh fish, especially when someone else prepares it, so I definitely had my fair share of seafood on this trip.

IMG_7907

Dessert!

IMG_7908

Another night we went to the contemporary restaurant for dinner.

IMG_7942

No one at our table liked the raw salmon, so more for me!

IMG_7943

This squash soup was really yummy!

IMG_7944

I got the grouper this night and it was really tasty!

IMG_7946IMG_7947

The last night we had dinner at the steakhouse and I got the grilled salmon, which was some of the best salmon I have ever had.  It was sooo good!

IMG_7991

Even the nights we had dinner at the restaurants, we usually finished up the evening with dessert at the buffet since there were so many options.  Exhibit A below… when you love chocolate but can’t make up your mind… you get everything and try a bite of it all.

IMG_7926

I had to end the recap with the picture of the delta crew loading guitars onto our plane to Nashville.  Little Big Town was on our flight back to Nashville and I was in total fan girl mode.  I didn’t ask for a picture since it was late and I didn’t want to be annoying, but that is just another reason I LOVE living in Nashville.  You get to see stars in their natural day to day life, which is pretty neat!

IMG_7993

We had such an amazing trip and I am already planning our next vacay!! I hope you enjoyed my recaps and have an amazing day!

  1. Have you ever met a celebrity?
  2. What is your favorite airline to fly?
  3. What is the longest flight you have ever been on?

Cancun, Mexico Couples Trip Part 1…The Pool, The Beach, and All The Activities

Good morning!!! I am so excited to share our recent trip to Cancun, Mexico with you all!  We had such a great time!  My sister and her boyfriend came with us, which made it even more fun!!

I always joke around and put Riley in my suitcase while I am packing because I hate leaving my pups, but this time he seriously did this on his own…. multiple times.  It about had me in tears, yall.  Fur babies are just the best!

IMG_0127

We were all up and at ’em very early on Wednesday for our flights.  We had a short layover in Atlanta before arriving in Cancun.  Our travel was uneventful and we made it to our resort around noon, which was nice because we had the afternoon to hang out.

We decided to take this trip because my sister and her boyfriend both had spring break from graduate school at this time.  (She is in her last year of law school and he is in his last year of his MBA.)  We looked at a LOT of resorts, but ultimately chose the Riu Palace Las Americas again.  My husband and I vacation here at the end of 2016 and loved it so we decided not to risk it and go with one we both loved.  It is an all-inclusive (!!!) and it is adults only.  The service is wonderful, the resort is very clean, and the food is phenomenal.

Can we all just acknowledge how cute this hat looks on my sister?

IMG_0082

And how funny it looks on me?  I think I have an oddly shaped head. 😉

IMG_0123

We were all just a LITTLE excited to be at the beach in the warm weather!

Nothing like that beautiful blue water.

IMG_7981

IMG_7966

My husband is ALL about the competitions.  This one you had to try to throw a football through a hula hoop.  He almost won. 😉

IMG_7937

And ping pong… there was lots of ping pong.

IMG_7911

Jon’s cheering squad. 🙂

IMG_7912

And lots of lounging…. I listened to so many podcasts.. it was amazing!

IMG_7909

Fun in the sun!

We joined some boys for a few games of beach volleyball.

The boys had a blast playing water volleyball.

IMG_7968

IMG_7979

My sister and I opted to watch and sip mimosas instead. 😉

IMG_7975

More hanging by the pool!

IMG_7928

Love these peeps!!

The Good Ole Days and A Chilly Visit to Florida

Good morning friends!!!!  How is your week going?  I am headed out of town for work so I am going to keep this short and sweet today!

I realized that I had not shared my adventures from a girls night out a couple weeks ago.  My bestie, Rachael, and I went to dinner before meeting up with the rest of the girls for a fun night out!  I won’t tell you the name of the restaurant, but we both ended up with horrible food poisoning.  As soon as my uber dropped me off at home that night, I ran to the bathroom to throw up.  It was awful.  Then I was up all night until 5 am throwing up about every 20 minutes.  You guys, I have never had food poisoning before and I NEVER want to have it again.  It is the worst!

IMG_7532

Before that disaster though, we had a really fun girls night!  We went to a show that had cover bands playing Christina Aguilera and Brittney Spears songs all night.  It was such a fun flashback to the good old days!

IMG_7539

This past Thursday morning we flew down to Orlando and drove another two hours to Vero Beach to see my in-laws!  They just bought a house down there and my husband and I went down to help them start the renovation process!

The first night we were there we went out for Italian at Vincents.

IMG_7545

I got the salmon (are you surprised?) and it was so so so yummy.  It had this incredible tomato sauce on it and it was just incredible!

IMG_7546

Friday morning we were all up and at em nice and early to make the drive to Boca Raton to pick up furniture from my husband’s grandma’s house.  This is the grandma we just lost right before Christmas.  My in-laws decided to use some of her furniture to furnish the house for renters.  So we loaded up the uhaul and two cars and were headed back to Vero.  We were all pretty exhausted by the end of the day.

IMG_7547

Friday night we went to Ocean Grill for dinner! I totally forgot to snap any pictures, but our meals were fantastic!!

IMG_7550

Saturday my husband and I took a long walk around town.

IMG_7552

We picked up some cupcakes for my father-in-law’s birthday and just strolled around taking in all the scenes.

We stumbled upon the Bark in the Park festival and just had to check it out.  We even got to see the doggies doing the dock jump!

IMG_7560

They were so cute!!

IMG_7562

Then we finished our long walk with a stroll on the beach.

IMG_7555

Even though it was a little chilly, it was still such a relaxing afternoon with no plans.

IMG_7556

On Saturday night we went to another local restaurant on the beach and all loved our meals again.  I love fresh seafood! And I sure do love this guy!!

IMG_7559

I really got lucky in the in-law department.  Mine are just the best!!

IMG_7557

It was such a quick and fun trip to Florida.  We got to see my in-laws and their new house and spend time relaxing.  I even started and finished an entire book while we were there!!!  It is so nice to have the time to read!  I hope you all had an amazing weekend too!!!

Questions:

  1. What did you do last weekend?
  2. Where is your favorite place to vacation?
  3. If you made any new years resolutions or goals, have you stuck to them?

Thanksgiving 2017 in Indianapolis

Hey friends!! How are you this morning? It is always hard to get back into the swing of things after a nice holiday break, but it sure feels good to be back in a routine.  We celebrated Thanksgiving this year in Indianapolis with my in-laws.  We switch each Thanksgiving and Christmas between my parents and my in-laws and it seems to work pretty well for us.  We are on the same schedule with my sister and her boyfriend/his parents so my parents either get all of us or none of us. 😉  This Christmas we will be in Nashville, which will also be the first time we haven’t had to travel for the holidays since living at home in high school. 🙂 I am pretty excited to get to enjoy our decorations this year and spend a little more time enjoying the holidays rather than traveling.

Last Wednesday we left for Indianapolis.  It is about a 4 and a half hour drive so it wasn’t bad at all.  We arrived to see our “agenda” on the nightstand.  My mother-in-law is the cutest.

IMG_7221

We had some soup for dinner at home and called it an early night.  Somehow both dogs and my husband ended up in my bed (my TWIN bed) for a movie to end the night.  I kinda love the snuggles though. 😉

IMG_7224

Thanksgiving morning we woke up bright and early to head to the annual Drumstick Dash.  The proceeds from the race go fight homelessness in Indy.  My brother-in-law and I ran while my husband, other brother-in-law, and mother-in-law walked.

IMG_7226

Thanksgiving day was spent just hanging around the house, watching movies and playing cards until it was time to start cooking.

IMG_7233

We only eat in the dining room on special occasions so that makes it kinda fun!

IMG_7230

This year we opted for a less traditional meal of surf and turf and lots of sides!  We made steak, lobster, scallops, a delicious salad (romaine, goat cheese, craisins, apples), green beans, roasted carrots, a mashed potato casserole and a sweet potato casserole!  We all agreed it was one of the best meals we have ever had!!

Riley is sporting a new look these days and he wanted to show ya’ll… 🙂

IMG_7246

Friday evening we headed downtown to the Pacers game!  It was a really close game and they ended up winning it right at the end!

IMG_7245

I am SO thankful for this guy.  He is my rock.

IMG_7249

As you can see I didn’t take as many pictures as usual.  I am really trying to focus on being more present and living in the moment.  We had such a fun time in Indy with family and I am already missing my mother-in-law’s amazing cooking.  🙂  We headed back to Nashville on Saturday afternoon to avoid the Sunday traffic and to have some time at home before heading back to work.  We cleaned the whole house, unpacked, did a few loads of laundry, did grocery shopping and meal prepping, completed some Christmas shopping and put up more decorations.  It is such a wonderful feeling going into a new week feeling refreshed and prepared!  I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving with your loved ones!!

Questions:

  1. What was the highlight of your Thanksgiving?
  2. What is your favorite Thanksgiving side dish?
  3. Do you travel each year for the holidays?

Weekend Recap 11.13.17 Wedding in Captiva Island

Good morning!!!  I hope you are having a nice week and had a nice weekend!  Ours started early on Wednesday morning when we headed to the airport to catch our flights to Captiva Island.  My oldest friend, Dana, got married this past weekend!!  Dana and I went to preschool together, lived in the same neighborhood growing up, went to elementary school together and then reconnected about 4 or 5 years ago when we both lived in Cincinnati.

Jon and I arrived Wednesday afternoon and headed straight to a late lunch on the water before making it to the resort.  This was our view as we crossed the bridge. 🙂

IMG_7117

We were exhausted from traveling all day so we were in our pajamas and in bed by 7pm.  It was lovely.

IMG_7174

A little while later we were greeted with a knock on the door from the hotel staff that dropped off a welcome bag from the bride and groom that included schedules of the weekend activities.

Thursday morning we headed to the gym before laying at the pool for a couple hours.  After a while, one of us got restless (…it was not me… I could lay at the pool all.day.long.) so we headed to our room to change for a round of golf.  There is a 9-hole course on the resort property (we stayed at South Seas Resort). Okay, I didn’t actually golf… I drove the golf cart and painted my nails while my husband played. 🙂

IMG_7172

We lucked out with amazing weather the entire weekend.

IMG_7171

After golf we got cleaned up to go to dinner at Harbourside Bar & Grill.  We opted for a table outside since the weather was beautiful.

We shared some shrimp to start while we admired all the yachts parked at the marina. 🙂

After dinner we headed over to the beach where the bride and groom hosted a welcome party with drinks and dessert for all their guests.

On Friday morning Jon had plans to play golf with the groom and some boys so I opted for a workout and some relaxation at the pool.  Before we knew it, it was time to get ready for the wedding!  We hopped on the trolley, which took us out to a beautiful location overlooking the ocean.

IMG_7176

How cute is the bride and groom’s little boy all dressed up in a suit?

IMG_7140

The ceremony was beautiful!!  The bride and groom read their own vows , which always makes me cry.  🙂 After the ceremony, the trolley took us to the golf course where the reception was held.

I’m not quite sure if you can get much prettier than this venue.

IMG_7150

I mean really?!?!  How amazing is that sunset!!!

IMG_7152

After cocktail hour, speeches, and dinner, it was time for dancing!

IMG_7154

IMG_7155

The beautiful bride, Dana, and I.  It was just a tad bit windy. 🙂

IMG_7156

Saturday morning we headed to the pool for a few hours.  We ordered lunch poolside and this salad was sooo tasty!

IMG_7160

Later in the afternoon we headed to the beach to meet up with some friends to hang out for a little while.

IMG_7161

Once we were nice and toasty, we headed back to the room to clean up for dinner.  We went to Harbourside Bar & Grill again since it was so close to our room.  We got a different type of shrimp to start this time and it was really good!  The sauce was amazing.  I can’t remember what my husband got, but I got the red snapper and it was SO yummy!!

After dinner we stopped by the bride and groom’s house to say hi before heading back to our room.  Our flight wasn’t until Sunday afternoon so we got to sleep in a bit, hit the gym, and take our time packing up before hitting the road for the airport.  We had such a blast in Captiva, but we sure were happy to see our pups again!!  We really missed them. 🙂

I hope you guys have a wonderful week!!  I am hoping to have my post about our DIY dining room table up next week!  Can’t wait to show yall!!

Questions:

  1. How was your weekend?  What was the highlight?
  2. Do you like seafood?
  3. Where is the best wedding destination you have ever been to?

Weekend Recap 9.24.17 Trip to Dallas to Visit My New (Doggie) Nephew and Avoid the Boys

Hi friends!! How are you all?  How is your week going?  Mine is flying by, which is always nice!  Last Thursday after work I headed to the airport to catch a late flight to Dallas for the weekend!  As much as I was excited to visited my sister and her boyfriend and their pups, there was another reason for the timing of my trip.  My husband goes on an annual boys ski trip with a group of 10 or so guys each year.  Well somehow the boys came up with the grand idea to add a summer trip to the mix this year in Nashville…. at our house.  Needless to say.. I needed to get far away from Nashville and hope that my house was still in one piece when I returned. 😉

Before I left for Dallas, my friend Rachael came over for dinner and some baking for our pups.  We made these homemade dog treats and it made plenty for her to take some home, for my pups, and for me to take some to my sister’s pups.  The pups LOVED these treats.  Peanut butter and bacon grease for the icing.. what is not to love.  I quickly realized I only had a gingerbread man cookie cutter. 🙂

IMG_6671

Friday morning my sister and I had a workout class on the agenda.  We were both eager to try Tread Barre for the first time.  The workout incorporates running on the treadmill, pilates, and strength training.  Ya’ll… it was SO tough!! If you get the chance to try it, I highly recommend it if you are in the mood for a HARD workout.  We were drenched!

We came home to see the pups!! You guys probably remember Otis, but there is new addition to the family.  My sister and her boyfriend got a puppy named Murphy a couple months ago!  He is the CUTEST!

In my happy place!! 🙂

IMG_6699

We made a quick smoothie for breakfast with protein powder, almond milk, ice, strawberries, blueberries and peanut butter.  Murphy is allllll about any and all food!

IMG_6696

I dropped my sister off for a quick meeting at her law school while I headed to an appointment.  Afterwards we grabbed lunch at Eatzi’s. After lunch we headed to a couple local stores for some shopping!  I actually got a new dress, sweater, and a necklace so it was a success!

IMG_6698

After lunch we took the pups on a walk to the dog park so they could run off some energy.

On Friday night we had plans at a new Asian restaurant with some friends. We got all dolled up and headed out!

IMG_6737

I got a rice bowl with lots of veggies and an egg on top!  It was delicious!

Me with my two Dallas favorites!

IMG_6744

Saturday morning after we took the dogs on a quick walk, we had plans to rent bikes to ride downtown to the farmers market!  Lime Bike is in several cities and it is such a neat concept.  You just download the app and are able to see where a bike is located around the city.  Once you locate the bike you scan it with your phone to unlock it and then you are off!

IMG_6711

We headed downtown on this beautiful day!

IMG_6715

We biked around 3 miles to the Farmers Market and spent time walking around the indoor and outdoor sections of the market.

IMG_6716

My sister and I both bought cute Dallas tank tops and my sister’s boyfriend bought a candle. 🙂

IMG_6717

Loved seeing all the pumpkins on display!!

IMG_6719

And I rode the tractor… thankfully it was a stationary one! 😉

IMG_6725

After a while of wandering around, we walked to the nearby restaurant called Mudhen for lunch.  My sister and I shared some blood orange mimosas and I got the market salad, which was soo yummy!

After lunch we walked to the plants/pumpkins section of the market.

IMG_6733

These pumpkins were massive!!

IMG_6734

Then it was time to open up the Lime Bike app and find some nearby bikes.  Unlike other bike rental companies where you go to the nearest bike station, Lime Bikes can be left ANYWHERE in the city.  It is such a cool concept!   We found one at the market and walked less than a block to find two more for our ride home.  (In my mind I was prepared to take an Uber if there were no bikes around us… but there were TONS in the city so it was not an issue at all.)

IMG_6736

My sister dared me to take this picture… I think I fit in quite nicely. 😉

IMG_6752

After our biking adventure we took the dogs to the dog park for a bit then my sister made us a delicious dinner of grilled salmon and asparagus, roasted broccoli and sweet potatoes and quinoa!  Bring on allllll the veggies! It was soo tasty!

IMG_6746

After dinner my sister and I had plans to stop by our friend Shelby’s for a little engagement party for their friend Ann.

We had a drink and chatted all things weddings with the girls.

These two girls definitely make me miss living in Dallas!

IMG_6750

I had such a fun time with my sister in Dallas all weekend.  I sure miss living 10 minutes away from her, but it is fun to have a great excuse to visit Dallas often!

IMG_6747

That wraps up my amazing weekend in Dallas!! I hope you guys have a great rest of your week!!

Questions:

  1. What was the highlight of your weekend?
  2. If you have siblings, how often do you see them?
  3. Do you have any nieces or nephews (human ones not doggie ones :))?

Weekend Recap 9.17.17… Friends Wedding in Columbus & Lots of Old Friends

Hey friends!!  How was your weekend?  I didn’t get around to blogging this weekend because it was jam packed!  We left for Columbus, OH on Saturday morning at early o’clock for our friends’ wedding.  We had a short layover in Chicago and got to Ohio around noon.  We rented a car and drove about 15 minutes to our hotel downtown.

I found this picture on my husband’s phone from dinner last week when my mother-in-law was in town.

IMG_6657

After we arrived, Jon went to meet up with a friend of his while I rested for a bit before getting ready for the wedding later that evening.  The wedding and reception was at the Westin Hotel.  The hotel is beautiful!

IMG_6656

After watching our friends say I do, there was a fun cocktail hour with all the guests.  My husband is friends with the groom from college; they were in the same fraternity.  A lot of their fraternity brothers attended the wedding so it was really fun getting to catch up with everyone after all these years.  Fun fact: My husband and I met in college at Miami of Ohio.  He was a junior and I was a freshman.  At the cocktail hour, there were a bunch of different napkins personalized by the bride and groom.  My favorite included fun facts about them!

IMG_6654

After the cocktail hour, we headed back to the same room where the ceremony took place for the reception.  They transformed it into a beautiful reception with lots of tables and a dance floor.  These were waiting at our seats with lottery tickets inside.  How cute!

IMG_6651

The couple had a traditional Jewish ceremony and included my favorite Jewish tradition.  I always get nervous that someone is going to fall and get hurt, but thankfully no one did. 🙂

IMG_6653

We had a blast celebrating the beautiful couple and seeing old friends.  After a few hours of dancing we headed back to the hotel for some rest before another early morning flight.  We left Columbus at 8:25am and got home to Nashville at 8:40am thanks to the time change!  It was so nice to have all Sunday at home to get ahead for the week.  We went grocery shopping, walked the dogs, cleaned the whole house, meal prepped and even got in some naps. 🙂

Have a great week, yall!!

Questions:

  1. Favorite part of a wedding?
  2. What was the highlight of your weekend?
  3. How many weddings (if any) are you attending this year?
