Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays… Enjoying a Slow Week at Home

Good morning!!! Merry Christmas to you all (who celebrate)!! Jon and I have had a relaxing week off work tackling some home projects and just moving at a slower pace. It has been wonderful.

But, we both are too great at sitting still for too long so by Monday morning we were at Home Depot gathering supplies to paint our guest bedrooms. LOL. When we moved into our house in San Antonio 2 years ago, you might remember, my mom and I painted our whole house in 2 days… all except for our 2 guest rooms. They were a medium/darker grey and I just figured now is the time to touch them up a bit. I wanted to do a light off white, but I think with the lighting in the rooms it looks like there is a blue tint. Not exactly what I was going for, but they look better than before! I was able to get both of the rooms all painted by Wednesday so it was a pretty quick project.

I wasn’t going to bake cookies this year, but I had the urge to do some baking last week so decided I would pick 3 and do some chocolate covered pretzels too. Fun, but not too overwhelming. Usually when my mom and I bake Christmas cookies, we make at least 7 or 8 different kinds. I didn’t have that kind of enthusiasm baking by myself. 🙂

I thought these little white chocolate covered pretzels turned out so cute!

Instead of making icing and icing all the sugar cookies this year, my mom suggested just dipping them in melted chocolate, which was a great idea because it was so simple and they were a huge hit. I made a few boxes, which we dropped off for friends this week and Jon has been enjoying the rest. 🙂

I told you all that my sister and her long term boyfriend, Max got engaged this past fall. I got a surprise package in the mail this past week from my sister asking me to be her matron of honor!! I am soo excited!! They are getting married in Cabo next year an I can’t wait!! She gave all the girls these cute personalized travel bags with all the goodies – chapstick, dry shampoo, face masks, body scrubs, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, soap, hair ties, eye patches and scrunches. So thoughtful and such a fun gift to receive.

Her boyfriend, Max, sent Jon a special package too. He asked him to be a groomsmen with a cute bottle of tequilla that he dressed up for the Mexican theme. 🙂

Oh I also need to mention this delicious soup I made this week. It was so easy and most of the ingredients I already had at home. This will definitely be in my rotation and next time I am making a double batch to freeze half!

I had to show you all this hilarious gift I got for Jon – he opened it early. 😉 If you follow me on instagram, you know the running joke that I call my husband the King. Well my friend Meganne started her own small business making custom doormats and I just couldn’t resist customizing one for Jon aka the King. 😉

That’s all for today. We have a few skype calls scheduled with our family today and some presents to open and then we are making a special dinner of scallops tonight!! I hope you all have a wonderful holiday, even if it looks a little different this year!!! XOXOXOXO

Holiday Plans

Hi friends!! I hope your week is off to a good start! We are plugging away on work over here so we can enjoy next week relaxing. I am really looking forward to it.

I have plans for a big day of cookie baking this weekend, which I am excited about. This year has been a long and hard year for us all and I am trying to keep some semblance of normalcy during the holidays that will inevitably be so different this year.

Along with both our families, we decided we would be staying put for Thanksgiving and Christmas this year due to covid. Although a hard decision, I know it is the right one considering the huge increase in covid cases following Thanksgiving. It is tough not to be surrounded by family during the holidays, but the risk is just too great. I am really looking forward to the holidays next year, but in the meantime, we will do what we can to make this year special. 🙂

Obviously holiday parties are out of the question this year so we decided to go to see some Christmas lights last week.

Our town has this drive through experience with Christmas lights and music to go along with it.

Yes, we took the dogs. Are you surprised? 😉

They were pretty mesmerized which was funny.

The lights weren’t the best I’ve ever seen, but a change of scenery was really nice!

So now you tell me, what are you doing to keep the holidays special this year? Any fun traditions?

Life Lately

Good morning!!!! How are you all? I am just patiently counting down the days to a nice long break from work. 😉

There is not much to report around here… so I will just continue to fill you in on what we have been doing the last few months at home.

My mom got Tito a new bed and he LOVES it. We had to get Riley one too. They only use it during the day though… at night at 3 dogs end up on my side of the bed.

I’ve been wanting my husband to build this table over our washer and dryer for some time now, but we just never got around to it. Across from the washer and dryer in the laundry room, we do have a nice counter and cupboards underneath so I didn’t necessarily need the extra room for folding, but I didn’t love the look of the washer and dryer by themselves so I decided I wanted this table. It is free standing so can always be removed and we added the backing piece because the wires come up above the washer and dryer and are quite the eye sore. my husband built this and I painted and stained it and we had it completed in a couple days! A productive quarantine project!

Funny story… my husband asked me to go on a bike ride a couple weeks ago and one afternoon we decided to go. I had Tito in the basket (he loves it) and we were riding and about a mile from our house when I tried to change gears and kept hearing this clicking noise. I told Jon and he said it was fine. It was not fine. He finally got on my bike to try to figure out the issue and the chain immediately felt off and the reflector shattered everywhere. LOL. We are waiting on a piece to come in the mail so he can fix it, but I had to carry Tito home while Jon walked both bikes home. LOL.

I love a real Christmas tree, but we are usually always out of town for Thanksgiving and Christmas so we typically just do a fake tree. But this year since we knew we were going to be in town, I was adament we get a real tree. We are lucky enough to live across the street from a little pop up Christmas tree yard/tent so the week of Thanksgiving we headed on over with our little cart. We picked a tree, strapped it down, and headed back home. Our neighbors were probably all laughing at us, but I will say it was quite nice not having to strap the tree to a car roof!

Thanksgiving this year was just us two, but my husband insisted we still cook a traditional Thanksgiving meal. He was so excited to smoked the turkey and said it was his best one yet!

On Thanksgiving morning he requested breakfast sandwiches, which ended up a great idea since he had breakfast for a week!

We made butternut squash soup, cornbread, mashed potatoes, stuffing, a turkey and cranberry sauce (from the can ;)).

I go through phases with my fitness. Sometimes I like to run or do yoga for a year, but the past couple years I have been very into strength training. I always follow a workout (usually found on instagram) so I have a plan, but typically only workout 15-25 minutes most days a week. When the weather is nice I try to get in a bunch of walks with my pups, but lately, I have been slacking. What do you do for exercise?

I have to end with few cute pictures of the pups. Our house is not set up for both my husband and I to work at home right now. We have one built in desk so this means I am moving from room to room during the day. Sometimes I work in one of our guest rooms and the pups are all always by my side.

These two have come a long way. I wouldn’t say they like each other, but we are making strides. 🙂

That’s all I’ve got for today!! Tell me what you have been up to this year!! Any new fun projects or activities during quarantine?

Beginning of Quarantine

Since it has been a while since I blogged I thought I would back up and fill you in on all of my quarantine. The beginning was actually not too bad…more time at home, more roadtrips, and more projects around the house.

Thankfully since my husband and I are both working from home (I was before covid and him since March), we were able to take a few long road trips (16 hours…ugh!) to my in-law’s lakehouse in Georgia. We could both work from anywhere, we didn’t want to fly and we knew we want to take all the dogs so this just worked best for us. Each time we split the drive into 2 long days and it really wasn’t too bad… well I say that, but my husband did 90% of the driving so maybe he has a different answer.

Since it was summer, it was nice to escape the sweltering San Antonio heat and get a little break in Georgia.

We were able to take even boat rides, have some new scenery and see both of our families.

Although we spent Thanksgiving and will spend Christmas alone this year – just me and my husband – I am thankful we were able to see our families quite a bit over the summer.

We made the trip to my mom’s new lakehouse too. My bestie Rachael came up for the weekend!!

I got to see my aunts too! They were all laughing at the size of my water bottle. I will admit, it was good in theory, but it is so heavy and a lot to carry around so i have since gotten a new smaller water bottle. LOL

Dinner with a lake view!!

These pups have sure enjoyed having us around a lot more. They are so spoiled as we are with them 24/7, I don’t know what they will do when life eventually gets back to normal.

If you have been around here long enough, you probably remember my extensive stay in the hospital back in 2018 that ended in bowel resectioning surgery. My friend Lissa sent me this picture the other day. It was about a week after I got out of the hospital – my momma got us all matching jammies and we had a girls night at my house. I remember just being soo happy and thankful I was home after all that time in the hospital.

That’s all for now!! I hope you all have the best week!! I just have a couple more weeks of work before I get a nice long break for the holidays and I can’t wait!!

2020 Isn’t So Bad After All … an Engagement and Dress Shopping

Hi friends!!! I hope you are all doing well as we finished up with what seems like the hardest year ever. I’m sure you feel the same, but I am just ready for a new year (and hopefully an end in site for covid). What.a.year. It feels like it has been long and short at the same time. While I miss the normalcy of traveling, seeing friends and family regularly, and just having routine, I will say I still have quite a lot to be thankful for this year.

One of the biggest events that happened this year for our family was my sister getting engaged this fall to her boyfriend Max. They have been together since college and we have all been waiting for this moment for a long time. They snuck away to Cabo and he planned the perfect proposal on the beach. Everyone says this looks like a scene from the bachelor!! 🙂

They quickly got to planning and will have a destination wedding in 2021 (covid permitting).

Close family all got to surprise them in Dallas upon their arrival home from their trip and we had a blast celebrating the happy couple all weekend!!

So happy for these lovebirds!!

My mom, sister, and I got in a full day of dress shopping for the bride to be! It was so fun and exhausting. It was soo hard to choose because honestly, my sister looked good in every dress.

Neither of these were “the one” but once the day comes, I’ll be sure to show you the dress she picked!!

After a day full of shopping, we headed to dinner with one of my sister’s best friends and her mom to one of our favorite restaurants in Dallas. It was a night full of good food with good friends!

Riley got to tag along on this girls trip and he was thrilled to be the only child for the weekend. ;). He found himself a little throne at my sister’s house.

I have decided I am coming back to blogging regularly. I needed a break this year during covid and I am glad I took it. I didn’t have much to blog about for quite some time, but after a much needed break, I am feeling inspired and have lots to share! I am thinking of you all and hope you are doing well during these crazy times. My husband and I are both so thankful to still have our jobs (although he has been working from home since March and I think it is time they let him come back to the office ;)). We have been spending a lot of time at home with our 3 pups (Tito is doing well!) and made a few long road trips to my in-law’s lakehouse in Georgia this summer since we are both working remotely so it was a nice change of scenery.

I have a few fun posts coming up soon so don’t worry, this time I will actually be back soon!!!!

XOXOXO Thinking of you all!!!
