New Favorite Smoothie Recipe with an Energy Boost!

Happy Thursday!! I hope you are all having a great week so far!  Mine has been LONG.  That is what usually happens before a 3 day weekend since I am more anxious for the weekend.  My husband, and our pups, are driving to Dallas on Friday to meet my mom, sister, and her bf to help my sister and her bf move into their new house!!! Eeeek I can’t wait!  It is extra special because this is their first time purchasing a home.  Each time we have purchased a home is exciting, but there is nothing like the first time!  I am seriously so proud of them.  I told you guys my sister is working in corporate law and some days she literally sleeps 2 hours… working until way past midnight.  I don’t know how she does it.  I’d quit. 😉 So we are all really ready to help make their new house a home!  

Anyway, I’ve got a new smoothie recipe for you today!  I may have mentioned that I have given up coffee a few times over the years because it upsets my stomach.  My sister actually has the same reaction to coffee as well.  I had an allergy test done once and coffee was one of my top five things I am allergic to… soo it makes sense that I don’t feel great when I drink it.  But I love it. 🙂 My sister and I actually both get tired after we drink coffee, which is obviously the opposite effect it has on most people.  We researched this and it actually is a real issue that affects a small percentage of people.  Weird, right?  

Back on track… my husband is really into cold brew coffee with almond milk these days so I decided to switch up my morning smoothie the other day and by surprise, it is now a favorite of mine!! 

Yall, I don’t measure so I am not sure how much of each ingredient I used, but really smoothies can be adjusted to your preference since it will all be blended together anyway.  

This smoothie contains: ice, frozen banana, almond butter, cinnamon, cold brew coffee, and unsweetened vanilla almond milk.  


Sometimes I put it in a glass, sometimes a bowl, and sometimes I add spinach or greens powder to it.  The possibilities are endless!

Weekend Recap 2.10.19 With a Little Bit of Life Lately

Hey friends! It’s been a minute since I’ve written a post.  I have been busy, but also my past couple weeks have been full of projects and cleaning the house because my husband has been gone on different boys ski trips.  He has 3 this month.. then I am keeping him all to myself. 😉  But in all reality, I think weekends apart with our friends are really important.  It gives us a chance to miss each other, have some alone time, and really connect with our friends.  I know some people are not okay with this, but I will always promote my husband (and me) having weekends away with our friends.  Now it would be nice next year if my husband’s three boys weekends did fall in the same month. 😉 

I haven’t had to much to blog about lately since I have been hanging out at home with the pups the last two weekends, but I did manage to take a few pictures.  I also have an update on the whole celery juice situation that will be up later this week as I have had quite a few people asking me if I am noticing any changes.  

My husband has been making cauliflower crust pizza for us on the regular.  This yummy meal just may be replacing our multiple taco meals each week. 🙂  The thing I love the most about pizza is that it is so versatile.  I just throw in whatever ingredients we have on hand and I haven’t had a bad pizza yet.  My latest favorite combination is pesto, mushrooms, grilled salmon (don’t knock it til you try it), Parmesan and goat cheese and arugula.  It was so delicious!

We did get to have a sushi date night last week and we tried a new place out.  It was good, but we have other favorites. 

I get asked often about my recovery from my whole hospital stay/surgery last year.  Well here is the only update I’ve got for you.  During my time in the hospital and when I first got home for about 2 or 3 months, my hair was falling out like crazy.  I mean in big clumps.  I told my husband that I really thought I was going to go bald.  Thankfully, I have always had really thick hair so it wasn’t anything others could notice, but I sure did.  Well almost a year later and it is growing back… but it just looks like baby hairs gone wild.  It reminds me of postpartum women who lose their hair and they get a bunch of baby hairs/ whispies that grow back.  That is exactly what my hair looks like right now.  I try to push them back in my ponytail, but it just looks like I have a big poof or wings. LOL.  Don’t get me wrong, I will take this any day over being in the hospital for months and I sure am grateful to have the hair that I do.  It is just another daily reminder of the crazy situation I went through last year.  


Which also reminds me… about my scar across my belly button.  I’ve had so many people ask me if it is still there and tell me that I need to be diligent about putting scar cream on it.  But honestly, I like my scar.  It is just a part of my now and it reminds me each time I look at it what a huge uphill battle it was to get on the other side.  I am happy and healthy and no scar or baby hairs will make me feel like I’m not.  I’ve got bigger things to worry about. 🙂 And for those who asked, I am feeling SOOOO much better.  The tummy pains have all disappeared, but I will see a new surgeon down here next month just so I have someone to call/see if I start getting those pains/nausea again.  

It got pretty cold here in San Antonio this weekend so I spent lots of time cuddling my pups.  

Well, playing with this one.  He is so funny.  He has a huge basket of toys and loves to get each toy out and drag them around the room until he finally settles on one to play fetch with.  


My sister’s boyfriend’s mom got me this silk pillowcase last year when I got home from the hospital and I just now got around to putting it on my pillow.  I’ve heard these are supposed to be so much better for your skin and hair.  Who knows, but I will be giving it a shot!


Speaking of hair, it was time for a tune up.  I spent yesterday afternoon putting new highlights in my hair.  


I’m pretty sure they have discontinued the dye I used to use, but it wasn’t at Target when I went the other day for some needed items so I just picked up this one.  It was $10. 


I never follow the directions and just leave it in as long as needed.  I just check a piece of hair to see if it looks done and then wash it out.  Usually I will do a second round to make sure I got all the pieces that needed coloring and to fix any spots that might need it.  


I forgot to take a before, but these are all after I was finished. Nothing dramatic, just a touch up on the highlights and I am ready to go!
