Weekend Recap 8.5.18

Hey Friends!! Happy Tuesday!!  I hope yall had a nice weekend and a good start to your week!!  It’s been busy busy busy over here, but all good things so I can’t complain!!  

Ever since I had taco lettuce wraps when we did Mexican night a few weeks ago, I have been obsessed with trying to create new dishes involving lettuce wraps.  For some reason they leave me more satisfied than a simple salad even though sometimes they contain the same ingredients.  Last week we did a Mexican themed night and I turned my tacos into lettuce wraps again but this time they contained ahi tuna, avocado, corn, tomatoes, and grilled peppers and onions.  So good!

I have been in major need of a new indoor grill pan.  Our old one was SO worn out so it was time to invest in a new one.  Amazon Prime to the rescue and we have already put the new one to use. 🙂 . Do you use an indoor grilling pan?

I found this on my phone the other day and it just made me laugh.  Sweet Callie girl.

On Friday night we headed to my dad’s to hang out with him and my brother for a bit.  We grilled then hung out in the hot tub for a bit before calling it a night.

I don’t know about yall, but it has been HOT here in Nashville so all I want to do on the weekends is lay by/in the pool.  This past Saturday was no different and after my husband finished golfing, he and his little brother (from Big Brothers Big Sisters) came over and joined us at the pool.

After a little while we all headed down to the garden to pick some flowers and vegetables.  With the intense heat a lot of their produce got destroyed, but we were able to salvage a few things.

Saturday night we just hung out at our house and called it an early night.  Sunday morning started bright and early with a walk in the park with my bestie, Lissa, and my pups while my husband played tennis.  My husband likes to get in all his activities on the weekends, while I like to rest after working out during the week. 🙂 

On Sunday afternoon, my mom came over to help us clean and organize for a few hours.

We cleaned the whole house, cleaned out our closets to go to Goodwill and I even had some time to meal prep for the week for my husband and I.  My husband eats out at lunch often with his coworkers so usually I don’t do much meal prepping for him so I was just a LITTLE excited when he asked me to make salads for him for the week. 🙂

Then I helped my mom get an appetizer ready for her book club. yum!

Then we plopped down on the couch and cuddled.

And watched a few episodes of the new season of Shameless.  Do any of yall watch it?  It is really dumb, but pretty funny.

I started a new book this weekend too! So far it’s really good!

I’ve been working on setting intentions each Sunday for my week ahead.  Sometimes they are big goals and sometimes they are small things I want to work on.  This week I am focusing on being more kind.  This can be shown in acts of kindness or simply speaking to others in a more kind way.  Just thought I would share this with you all.

  1. A new book and a new show – how nice! And all of your food looks delicious, as always.

    I love the idea of having an intention every week. Self improvement can be so incremental, and having one think to really focus on at a time seems like a great way to pursue it. Plus, I think kindness is a wonderful thing to work on! (Although you and your husband already seem very kind, between the Big Brothers Big Sisters he does and all the nice things you do for your family and friends :))

    1. That is super sweet of you to say, Taylor. I think we can always work on being kinder simply in small actions or even just the way we say things. My husband always says to me “it’s not what you said, it’s the way you said it” and for once I think he is right. 😉 . Having just one thing to really focus on each week is easy for me than having 10 intentions or goals. This way I can really make sure to put my goal into play instead of forgetting about it or overlooking it. 🙂 . I completely agree with you that self improvement is so important.         Your husband sounds very wise 😉 That’s something I need to work on — I often get so caught up in just trying to communicate what I’m thinking or feeling that I don’t spend enough time considering how to best express it. Words said one way can be hurtful or tear down a relationship, whereas the same thing said a different way can be really constructive. I’m going to try to keep your husband’s advice in mind as a little self-improvement project of my own. Hopefully that means we can report back next week that we’ve both become kinder people 😀
