Weekend Recap 1.27.18 Hockey, Projects, and A Night Out

Hey friends! How’s it going?  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  Mine started a little early with a fun night out with my dad last week for the Predators game!  We went to dinner at Amerigos before the game and it was so yummy!  Then we headed downtown to the arena.  It was an amazing game.  The Preds were winning 3 to 2 until a few minutes to go.

IMG_7564

But then the other team scored and it went into overtime and the Preds lost. 😦 . But it is always a good time with my daddy!

IMG_7566

I am all about home projects these days and since our house was brand new when we bought it, we haven’t had to do many projects.  So I have been coming up with new small projects for my husband and I to do together and the most recent one was building a ladder shelf like these ones.  We started and finished it this weekend so once it is all set up I will show you guys!!

These 3 are my everything.  I just love them so much. 🙂

IMG_7579

Since moving into our new home in Nashville, I have been working out at home instead of at a gym and I LOVE it.  It is so nice to not have to worry about crowds, traffic, and time commuting.  Every time I do a wall sit, Callie comes over to give me a hug (and some extra weight). 🙂

IMG_0017

I think I have shown you guys this bench that my husband and his brother made for our front porch, but this past weekend I finally got around to putting a few coats of poly on it, which gives it a nice shine and will protect it from harsh weather.   I just love it!

IMG_7574

On Friday night my dad and little brother invited Jon and I out to dinner at Amerigos and we couldn’t say no!  Ofcourse I forgot to take any pictures, but we had a blast catching up with them!

Yall, don’t make fun of me, but I did yoga this past weekend at my house and ouch.  I am SO not flexible at all.  I never have been, but since taking yoga out of my workout routine, I have lost all flexibility that I did gain over the last few years.  I am going to make a point of doing yoga a couple times a week because I do notice that my back feels a lot better when I stretch regularly.

IMG_0015

Our Sunday started with a workout and lots of cleaning around the house.  In the afternoon we headed to World Market (we got a big Costco run in too, which is my favorite!) to do some shopping for our new shelf before heading to dinner with my mom and stepdad at Antonios.

IMG_0018

I got the grilled salmon and it was delicious… probably due to all the butter on it!! 😉

IMG_7581

After dinner we had plans to see Father Gregory Boyle speak about his book “Tattoos on the Heart.”  If you haven’t heard of him or his book, you should look him up and read his book.  It is a quick, easy read and it is fantastic.  He works with gang members in LA and helps them get jobs, tattoo removals, and helps them find a purpose to lead a better life.  He is truly amazing and his talk was wonderful too.

IMG_7584

I hope you all had a great weekend and have a wonderful rest of your week!!

Questions:

  1. What was the highlight of your weekend?
  2. What is the last book you read?
  3. What is one project you want to do around your house?

The Good Ole Days and A Chilly Visit to Florida

Good morning friends!!!!  How is your week going?  I am headed out of town for work so I am going to keep this short and sweet today!

I realized that I had not shared my adventures from a girls night out a couple weeks ago.  My bestie, Rachael, and I went to dinner before meeting up with the rest of the girls for a fun night out!  I won’t tell you the name of the restaurant, but we both ended up with horrible food poisoning.  As soon as my uber dropped me off at home that night, I ran to the bathroom to throw up.  It was awful.  Then I was up all night until 5 am throwing up about every 20 minutes.  You guys, I have never had food poisoning before and I NEVER want to have it again.  It is the worst!

IMG_7532

Before that disaster though, we had a really fun girls night!  We went to a show that had cover bands playing Christina Aguilera and Brittney Spears songs all night.  It was such a fun flashback to the good old days!

IMG_7539

This past Thursday morning we flew down to Orlando and drove another two hours to Vero Beach to see my in-laws!  They just bought a house down there and my husband and I went down to help them start the renovation process!

The first night we were there we went out for Italian at Vincents.

IMG_7545

I got the salmon (are you surprised?) and it was so so so yummy.  It had this incredible tomato sauce on it and it was just incredible!

IMG_7546

Friday morning we were all up and at em nice and early to make the drive to Boca Raton to pick up furniture from my husband’s grandma’s house.  This is the grandma we just lost right before Christmas.  My in-laws decided to use some of her furniture to furnish the house for renters.  So we loaded up the uhaul and two cars and were headed back to Vero.  We were all pretty exhausted by the end of the day.

IMG_7547

Friday night we went to Ocean Grill for dinner! I totally forgot to snap any pictures, but our meals were fantastic!!

IMG_7550

Saturday my husband and I took a long walk around town.

IMG_7552

We picked up some cupcakes for my father-in-law’s birthday and just strolled around taking in all the scenes.

We stumbled upon the Bark in the Park festival and just had to check it out.  We even got to see the doggies doing the dock jump!

IMG_7560

They were so cute!!

IMG_7562

Then we finished our long walk with a stroll on the beach.

IMG_7555

Even though it was a little chilly, it was still such a relaxing afternoon with no plans.

IMG_7556

On Saturday night we went to another local restaurant on the beach and all loved our meals again.  I love fresh seafood! And I sure do love this guy!!

IMG_7559

I really got lucky in the in-law department.  Mine are just the best!!

IMG_7557

It was such a quick and fun trip to Florida.  We got to see my in-laws and their new house and spend time relaxing.  I even started and finished an entire book while we were there!!!  It is so nice to have the time to read!  I hope you all had an amazing weekend too!!!

Questions:

  1. What did you do last weekend?
  2. Where is your favorite place to vacation?
  3. If you made any new years resolutions or goals, have you stuck to them?

Let’s Talk About Me (Time)

Good morning friends!!! How are you all doing on this chilly Wednesday morning?  I hope you are staying warm and safe!!  We had a snow day hear in Nashville yesterday and for once, the snow was actually as much as they said it would be.  The roads were pretty bad and the back roads are still a little dicey.  But it is back to work today and honestly, after a day of being cooped up in the house, I was more than ready to get dressed up and get out the door!  🙂

Today I want to discuss a topic that has been on my mind a lot lately.  I have never been one of those girls that gets her hair cut and colored regularly, gets her nails done often, or gets her eyebrows waxed.  I personally spend my money in other places, but I will say that self care and “me” time is something I am not good at.  Yes, I wash my hair, brush my teeth and take care of myself, but I don’t often take a day or even an hour to relax and do something nice for myself.

I had a doctor appointment a few weeks ago (for my back) and he advised me to take at least 4 epsom salt baths a week.  Yall, even this simple task seemed quite daunting to me.  Even if the bath was only 20 minutes, I have a hard time not thinking about other things that I could be doing instead of relaxing in the bath.  He also advised me to take a few minutes every day and stretch.  While I exercise every day, I will say, I am horrible about stretching.  There is just never enough time.

When it comes to self care and doing things for myself I have realized there are two things that hold me back a little bit.  First of all, I am not a big spender.  I buy things I need (and things I don’t), but it is hard for me to justify spending money on things like highlights, nails, spray tans, etc that are all so semi-permanent.  Second of all is the guilt associated with being a little selfish and doing things for myself.  I know I am not the only one here that has felt this way.

After speaking with my doctor a bit, I have decided to take more time for myself and be intentional about it.  The last couple weeks I have implemented some “me” time into my schedule and I will say that it has been wonderful.  And I haven’t spent a lot of money doing it!

Today I want to share my tips on making “me” time a priority!

  1. Schedule your “me” time in your calendar just like any other appointment.  A personal trainer would tell you to schedule your workouts in your planner just like any other meeting so you are less likely to skip out on them and I think the same goes for a little “me” time.  Each week I write down when I think I will have time for a yoga session, a long bath, time to read a book, or even some stretching.
  2. Personal time does not have to be expensive.  Taking time for yourself can be as simple as taking a long walk in the park, doing a face mask in a bubble bath, laying down with a good book, painting your nails, styling your hair, trying out a new makeup look, or stretching while listening to some soothing tunes.
  3. Just like taking time for yourself doesn’t have to be costly, it also doesn’t have to be a long period of time or interrupt other daily tasks.  I choose my “me” time when my husband is playing tennis or working.  I take my “me” time when I have accomplished things that need to get done around the house or at work.  If I know my daily will be jam-packed, I set my alarm a little earlier so I have the time I need to be intentional about de-stressing and relaxing.
  4. Taking time for yourself does not have to be a selfish act.  Sometimes we need that alone time to recharge and refresh ourselves so that we can be the best person we can.  I know I am a happy person when I take the time to exercise, style my hair, take a bath, or take a long walk.  I am a firm believer that we get back what we put out in the universe, so why not put out the best version of ourselves?

I have noticed lately that by taking more time for myself that I feel a sense of calm.  I told my husband yesterday after a long workout and a bubble bath that I have never felt so relaxed in my life.  This in turn translated into me being a happier, more productive version of myself.

So now I want you guys to tell me your favorite “me” time activities!!

Questions:

  1. What is one thing you do for “me” time?
  2. How do you prioritize “me” time?
  3. Why is “me” time important to you?

All the Holiday Activities

Hi guys!!  Can’t believe it is Monday already!  Do you all have to work today?  Jon has the day off, but I don’t.  Oh that reminds me… I am still working on a post of our new dining room table he made.  He actually just recently made me a new bench for our front porch with the help of his brother and once it is stained I will show you all that too!  It sure is nice having a husband that loves projects and is good at them!

While my sister and her boyfriend were in town, we made sure to fit in as many outings and adventures as possible!  Our family friends, Harry and Jeanne, invited us out to breakfast one morning at Le Peep, but ofcourse I forgot to take a picture.  We also took about 100 walks and trips to the dog park, but it was just too cold to document. 🙂

On Tuesday we all decided to go see the movie  Downsizing. Have any of you guys seen it?  We all thought it was horrible, but hey, we enjoyed the popcorn and comfy recliner seats. 🙂

IMG_3632

On Wednesday night, my sister, her boyfriend, Jon and I went out to dinner at Park Cafe and it sure did not disappoint.  We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, which were devoured before I could take any pictures.  We then headed over to Neighbors for an evening of bar trivia with some friends!  We ended up coming in 2nd place!

IMG_7495

On Thursday night, Jon and I had plans with his old boss (from when we lived in Cincinnati) and his wife for dinner.  We suggested Sea Salt and it was soo yummy!  We all got fish dishes and loved them!

IMG_7452

Such a fun night!

IMG_7493

On Friday night we had dinner plans again (do you see a common theme food with a lot of our activities?).  We met my mom and stepdad at Sperrys for an amazing meal!  Love my momma!

IMG_7484

The whole crew!

IMG_7455

After dinner my friend Rachael came over with her pup, Cooper, for game night!  We played a few games and my mom requested a picture with all the doggies lined up in a row.  This was as close as we got.  🙂

IMG_7460

Murphy, my sister and her boyfriend’s puppy used Riley’s old crate while they were at our house.  While we were playing games, we kept noticing Callie sneaking into the crate (probably to hide from the small, crazy dogs who wanted to play with her).  She’s the cutest.

IMG_7465

My sister and her boyfriend had plans on Saturday night to attend a wedding so I opted for a girls night with my bestie, Lissa.  We decided on Tavern for dinner and got a seat where we could watch the Predators game too!

IMG_7488

Jon’s brother, Ryan, came to town for the game.  They had a blast!

IMG_3655

I should have titled this blog post “the most times dining out in one week.” 🙂  Sunday around lunchtime we headed to the Gulch for brunch at Biscuit Love before the Titans game. We all really loved our meals!  This place is a must if you are in the area!

IMG_7473

IMG_7471

After brunch we headed downtown to see the Titans play!  Thankfully we were able to snag tickets in a suite through my husband’s work.  Otherwise, I think I would have been watching from my couch.  I couldn’t believe how many people sat out in the freezing cold to watch the game.  I enjoy a good sporting event, but I don’t like any sport THAT much. 😉

IMG_7477

Me and my sistaaa!

IMG_7486

and Max!!

IMG_7489

Lots and lots of games were played throughout the holidays.  Notice Otis’ eyes in the first picture and then the second picture.  And….he’s out! 🙂

We had a few ideas for plans on NYE, but after the Titans game, we were all wiped!  We headed to bed early for a good night’s rest.  My sister, her boyfriend, and their pups hit the road bright and early for their long drive back to Dallas.  Jon and I spent New Year’s day cleaning the house, organizing, and cooking before deciding to head to the mall for Dillard’s New Year’s Day sale.  We really love this sale and try to stock up each year.  I got a few things, but my husband really cleaned up.  He got 2 new suits, 6 pairs of pants and 4 new shirts!  It was a major deal!  He really needed a new suit after I put his nice one through the wash a while ago and ruined it.  Whoops. 🙂

There was one more activity we did over the holidays, but that deserves it’s own post so that will be up soon!  I hope you all really enjoyed the holidays this year too!  We sure did!  I was tired from all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, but I certainly had a case of the post holiday blues when they were over.  Until next year!

Questions:

  1. Did you travel for the holidays?
  2. What was your favorite activity you did this holiday season?
  3. Did you eat at any yummy restaurants over the holidays?

The Holidays Continued…

Happy Friday friends!!!  I don’t know about you, but I sure am ready for a low key weekend at home.  We hosted my husband’s team at work for dinner last night at our house and I was up way past my bedtime.  Also, we need to talk about the weather.  Yesterday it was 70 (!!!) in Nashville and today it is 30 and snowing… It is supposed to continue throughout the day so we will see what happens, but I am ready for some tea, my couch, a blanket and a good book!

Picking up from where I last left off on Christmas eve.  On Christmas morning we were up bright and early to begin the festivities.  The presents were overflowing in my living room that morning. I guess we were on the good list this year. 😉

IMG_7428

It was such a treat to wake up in our own house this year on Christmas morning!  Since we were staying in town this year and hosting my sister, her boyfriend, and their two pups, we agreed to host Christmas brunch for part of the family and Christmas dinner for the other half of the family.  We were just happy to get to stay home all day!

IMG_7429

My mom, stepdad, and our family friends, Harry and Jeanne (they are both in their 90s!!!) came over for Christmas brunch with us!  We made brioche french toast, homemade granola, a big bowl of fruit, a veggie frittata and a bacon and sausage quiche.  It was all delicious!

IMG_7494

After brunch we headed upstairs for a couple games of ping pong.  Are Harry and Jeanne not the absolute cutest ever?  Jon and I want to be like them when we grow up. 😉

IMG_7510

Just call me the dog whisperer, yall! 🙂

IMG_7513

My mom makes every person who comes to our house play ping pong with her.  Even though Harry is in his 90s, he was no exception. 😉 He’s still got it!

IMG_7501

After a while we headed back downstairs to start opening the presents! Jon decided Callie needed a little Christmas spirit. 😉

IMG_7431

My mom egging Murphy on with the ribbon.

IMG_7434

My mom insisted on this picture below and I am sure glad she did.  My mom and grandma used to make lemon bars for parties and family gatherings all the time.  Well my mom let me know (at least 100 times) that she was no longer able to find the lemon bar mix at the grocery store.  So I did what any logical person would do and I order a case of lemon bars (12 boxes) off of amazon for her. 😉  And I wrapped each one individually.  She didn’t catch on until opening about the 5th box. 😉 We all had a pretty good laugh!

IMG_3630

I feel like I was in the kitchen for a few days straight over the holidays, but luckily I had a lot of helpers so it was really fun!

IMG_3616

After our guests left, we took the pups to the dog park then came back and relaxed before round 2!  I had a few little snuggle bugs who were equally as exhausted. 🙂

Next up was Christmas dinner with my dad, my little brother, my dad’s girlfriend and her daughter.  We made a fun Christmas champagne punch, rolls, steak, swordfish, a big salad, a potato and butternut squash casserole, a corn casserole, broccoli, and lobster mac and cheese.  Another great meal in the books!

IMG_7517

Callie LOVES my little brother.  It is so sweet.  After dinner we opened more presents.  My sister and her boyfriend won the best gift award giving my little brother a drone!! Lucky kid!  My dad was equally as shocked when he open his new kayak for the lakehouse from all his kids!  After presents, we played a few games then called it a night!

IMG_7441

That’s all for today friends!! I am going to finish my holiday recap next week!  I hope you all have an amazing and warm weekend!!!!

Questions:

  1. What do you have planned for this weekend?
  2. Do you have a favorite soup recipe?
  3. What is one food you could eat every day for the rest of your life? (Mine would be peanut butter, bananas, or apples!)

Christmas Celebrations 2017

Hi yall!!! How are you all doing?  I am feeling a lot better this week than I was the past few weeks.  I actually came down with an ear infection a few weeks before Christmas and could not get rid of it, but I am finally on the mend!

Today I am getting back to recapping one of the best holiday seasons ever!  But first a picture of my sweet boy, Riley.  🙂 I just love this doggie more than anything.  He is my little cuddle bug.

IMG_7376

My two nephew dogs were with us for 10 days! Did you notice the duck tape on the front door?  My husband put that up there because sweet Callie scratches the door when she gets excited when someone comes to the door.  Does anyone else have this same issue? 🙂

IMG_7383

Me, my daddy, and my sister!

IMG_7466

This guy.  I don’t know what I would do without him.

IMG_7390

On the Friday before Christmas my sister and I had a date at the nail salon.

IMG_7498

Then my sister and her boyfriend had a party to attend and so did we!  Our friend, Bridget, had a potluck dinner at her apartment with a bunch of friends to celebrate her birthday!!! We all had a blast chatting, sipping some drinks, eating and laughing! The boys did come, but they weren’t allowed in the picture. 😉

IMG_7395

Even little Cooper made the party!

IMG_7386

My sister’s boyfriend’s family sent LOTS of treats for all of us (even the dogs!!!) and my mom wasn’t hesitant to start the taste testing at 10am! 🙂

You guys…. we did SO much cooking.  SO much.  I seriously needed a break from cooking after Christmas day.  We made homemade granola, mini spinach and feta tartlets, and cranberry brie bites.

Murphy and Otis helped too. 😉

IMG_7409

On Saturday night we had plans to attend our best friend Eric’s 30th birthday party!

IMG_3622

We had a blast!

IMG_3620

And even got to play corn hole! 🙂

IMG_7509

We celebrated Christmas Eve at my mom and stepdad’s house.  Isn’t their dining room table beautiful? My mom always outdoes herself.  🙂

IMG_7411

We had a delicious meal of salad, salmon, and lots of roasted veggies.

All the “kids” after dinner.

IMG_7418

Jonny starting the fire for us!

IMG_7419

We all got to open one present on Christmas Eve (this is a tradition my mom started with us when we were little… it is still just as fun and exciting today!).  The boys got new tool sets and the girls got cookie shooters to make all different types of cutout cookies.  We all laughed because if that isn’t gender stereotypes then what is? 😉

IMG_7422

I am going to end here and show you a glimpse of our crazy Christmas next time!! I hope you all have a fabulous day!!! xoxoxo

Questions:

  1. How were your holidays?
  2. Are you relieved they are over or do you have the post holiday blues?
  3. Did you make any resolutions or goals for 2018?

How is it Already 2018 and Remembering a Sweet Grandma

Good morning!!! You guys.. I can’t believe the holidays have come and gone and we are already 10 days into 2018!  Where has the time gone?? I had all these grand plans to start the new year with lots of blog posts and recaps, but life has been quite hectic lately to say the least.

Right before Christmas we lost our last grandparent on this earth.  My husband’s grandma passed away at 94 years old.  She lived a long and happy life and left a lot of sweet memories and traditions behind.  How sweet is this picture of her with my husband when he was a little boy?  My heart just melts. 🙂

unnamed

We spent this past weekend in Cincinnati remembering her life with all of our family.  It was a beautiful weekend full of memories and laughter.  It has been 3 years since we lost my grandma and I still think about her every single day.  Grandparents are just the best.

I have lots to share with you guys from the holidays to DIY projects to recipes and more!  Maybe this year I will get it together and be able to start blogging on a schedule again.  Until then…. 🙂

This was the first year since high school that we haven’t had to travel for the holidays and it was wonderful.  We usually put up a few decorations and small fake trees, but this year we were SUPER excited to get a REAL tree for the first time ever!  There is nothing like the smell of a real Christmas tree. 🙂

IMG_7289

IMG_7293

We were determined to keep it alive and we .succeeded! Yall… this is a huge accomplishment for the girl that can barely keep herbs alive. 😉

IMG_7324

All dolled up!

IMG_7290

My sister and her boyfriend surprised us at 6am on the Friday before Christmas at our front door!  We thought they were arriving that afternoon, but they drove through the night with their 2 pups all the way from Dallas!

IMG_7334

I have got to run, but I have the rest of my holiday recaps coming atcha very soon!!  Have a great day friends!!!!
