Vacation in Maui Continued… The Road to Hana

Good morning!!!  How are you guys doing today?  I am thankful we are getting close to the weekend…although it feels like I still have quite a bit to do before then.  Today I am going to recap the next part of our Hawaiian vacation!

On Monday morning we had planned to wake up early and get on the road to tackle the Road to Hana .  We knew this would be a long day, but after some research we knew this definitely had to be on our itinerary.

Hana is a very small little town, but there is a reason they say to do the “road to Hana.” This adventure reminds me of the saying, “It is not about the destination, it’s about the journey.”  The road is beautiful and windy and lush.  It is even a little scary at times.  There are tons of stops along the way with short hikes, waterfalls, caves, and other sites to see.  We packed a cooler full of snacks and drinks and headed out around 9am.  Our first stop was this overlook with HUGE turtles and great surfing.  No, we didn’t surf.. we just watched!

The next stop was this short little hike to a couple water falls.

We opted for the easy hike after we realized the hard one included crossing a creek.  We are adventurous, but not that adventurous. 😉

Sweet Jacob helping dad.

The boys.

The next stop was a beautiful lookout with huge rocks and waves crashing on them.

It was a little bit bright out. 🙂

Admiring the beauty and throwing rocks.

Love my sister and my brother.

We remind him how lucky he is to have two sisters at every chance we get. 😉

Us with our boys.

The next stop was this little park.  Doesn’t this picture look fake?

The “kids.”

Dad and his kiddos.

Me and Jonny.

The park had stairs down to a beautiful beach with a cave.  So neat!

We stopped at a few more places along the way with waterfalls and swimming holes.  It was truly an amazing experience.  We made it all the way to Hana (about 2 hours with no stops) and had lunch at a little cafe on the beach.  We ate poke (raw fish – tuna) and burgers and then piled in the car for the long ride back through the curvy roads.  If you ever make it to Maui, I highly recommend this tourist attraction!  I will be back soon with more Hawaii recaps!!

I want to take a minute to say thank you to all my readers!  This blog is a huge passion of mine and I just love seeing your comments and reading your blogs (to all the other bloggers who come to my page).  I really enjoy sharing my life with you and although it has been quite sporadic since our move to Nashville this year and transitioning jobs, I try my hardest to be consistent with my posting.  If there is anything you would like to know about me or if you have a topic you would like me to post about, I am all ears!  I love getting feedback and am happy to hear any suggestions!!  I hope you all have a wonderful day!! XOXOXO

Aloha!!! Recap of our Trip to Maui Part 1!

Good morning!!!  Well I promised you a recap of my recent trip to Hawaii so here it is!  We have been thinking about taking a family trip to Hawaii for a few years now and it was finally time to turn this idea into action!  We decided that since we would just be there for one week, we would just stay in Maui the whole time so we didn’t have to do any more traveling when we got there!

My husband had a bachelor party in Chicago the weekend we had planned to leave for Hawaii so he headed up there Thursday while I stayed in Nashville until my flight early Saturday morning.  I took a 4 and a half hour flight to LA then connected on a 5 hour flight to Maui.  It was a longggg day!  But Maui is 5 hours ahead of Nashville so it was just one really long day.  I made it until 8 pm (2 am Nashville time) then I passed out hard.

My dad and little brother arrived a week before us so they picked me up at the airport with a lei! 🙂  We headed to the condo we rented for the week, which was right on the beach. 🙂

After unpacking I got to spend some time with my favorite 10 year old. 🙂

After a little while we took a short little walk on the beach.  The weather was amazing the entire time we were there!

My husband, sister and her boyfriend arrived later Saturday night.  I was already asleep by the time they got in.  With the early bed time and the time change, I was up at 5 am the next day.  We slept with the windows open and awoke to the waves cravings.  It was so peaceful.

Sunday during the day we just hung out at the beach.  Aren’t my siblings the cutest? 🙂

The boys.  My little brother really loves having my husband and my sister’s boyfriend around.  They love to play video games and do boy stuff with him. 😉

Love my sweet siblings.

Sunday night we had plans to go out to dinner before our evening activity.  We chose Mala Ocean Tavern and it did not disappoint.  I got a teriyaki dish with rice, veggies and fish.

We caught the beautiful sunset outside the restaurant before we left.

All the “kids.”  🙂

Dad and his kids.

Me and the hubs. 🙂

After dinner we headed over to the Hyatt Regency for the Tour of the Stars.  We got to go on top of the building and see all the stars through the huge telescopes.  We even got to see the international space station flying by while we were up there!  It was really a neat thing to get to experience!

I will stop here and pick up here next time!!  I hope you all have an amazing day!!

Weekend Recap 8.27.17 … Jet Lag Forever, Change of Plans, and Titans Preseason Game

Hi friends!!! Long time no talk!!  As you know I got back into town last week from being on a family vacation.  My husband and I went to HAWAII with my sister, her boyfriend, my dad, and brother.  It was amazing!!  I am organizing all my pictures, but will have recaps of my trip up soon!  I had planned to start recapping my trip last week, but it ended up being a crazy week at work and I was fighting jet lag all. darn. week.

In the meantime I will just recap this past weekend at home.  After being gone for a week, I was more than ready for a quiet weekend at home.  This was the scene at my house Friday after work.

My husband and I were too tired to make dinner so we order take out from one of our favorite thai restaurants.  I always get this salad with shrimp and avocado with this delicious ginger dressing.  It hit the spot!

These two sure loved their dog sitters, but they were SO happy to see us.  I was so anxious to get home to them after being gone for a week.  I can’t imagine having to leave a child. 🙂

Right before my trip I went out to dinner with my bestie Rachael and got this amazing ahi salad.  I can’t stop thinking about it! 🙂

I also found this little gem on my phone.  My mom spent the night before I left for Hawaii so she could take me to the airport bright and early and she had a little sleepover with this cutie.  Riley is obsessed with my mom. 🙂

Saturday Jon went golfing and I went to my mom’s house to hang by the pool for a couple hours.  We had plans to go to this event at a local park with some friends Saturday night, but after we both plopped down on the couch in the late afternoon, we realized there was no way that was happening.  We were both exhausted so we opted for an early bedtime instead.

Sunday we woke up, took the dogs on a walk, got in a quick workout and then it was time to head downtown for the Titans preseason game against the Bears.

I like sporting events, but I go more for the social aspect of it.  Especially when it comes to football.  I’m not sure if I even watched one play the entire game. 😉

My husband had tickets in a suite through his work so we got to invite a few friends and my mom and stepdad.  You guys have seen Eric and Rachael on the blog before.  They are our favorite couple! 🙂

Enjoying the game in the air conditioning with drinks and snacks is my kind of day.  Oh the things I do for this guy. 😉

I am off to get this day started!! I hope you all have a great day!! I will be back soon with some fun recaps of our trip to Hawaii!! xoxoxo

  1. How was your weekend?
  2. Are you a football fan?
  3. Any fun trips coming up?

Weekend Recap 8.6.17 Yummy Dinners, a Hike, a Concert and Lots of Chores

Good morning friends!!  How is your week going?  I can’t believe it is already Wednesday.  I always go into the week with the hopes of posting on Monday, but then somehow it takes me until at least Wednesday to finish them.  Remember the good ole days when I used to post every single day?  Gosh, I don’t know how I managed that.  I wasn’t working full time, which clearly made a big difference.  Someday I will get my act together and and come up with a manageable blogging schedule, but until then, thanks for sticking with me and my sporadic posting.

Last Thursday my father-in-law came into town on his way to the lake.  We spent the evening chatting and playing darts before heading to one of our favorite spots for dinner.

We had a fabulous dinner at Bricktops including lots of yummy food.  I got the swordfish (can you believe it?) and it was amazing.

On Friday night I had dinner plans with my bestie, Lissa.  We decided to try a new-to-us restaurant called Silo in Germantown for a late birthday celebration for Lissa.

We had some wine and lots of dishes to split.  All the food was really yummy and the restaurant has a really fun atmosphere.

Saturday morning Jon and I were up early to head to my mom and stepdad’s house so my stepdad could help Jon with a couple of things for our new dining room table.  My mom and I cooked a little bit then lounged by the pool.  🙂

After a couple hours, we headed home and picked up the pups for a short hike.  It was a beautiful day!

Saturday evening my brother and dad came over for dinner before we all headed downtown to Ascend Amphitheater to see Straight No Chaser.

Straight No Chaser is an all men’s acapella group who we actually saw during our visit to Indiana last winter.  They sing all cover songs and are so entertaining!

Sunday morning we went for our usual weekend stroll with the pups.

To get our sweet, cold treat!  How funny is this sign?  🙂

The rest of Sunday was spent vacuuming, dusting, doing laundry, meal prepping, cleaning the car, working on our new table, and organizing around the house.  It sure does feel nice to start the week feeling prepared!!

I am hoping to stop in one more time this week before heading out of town on Saturday for a whole week.  Any guesses where we are going?!!?

  1. Any idea where we are going on vacation?
  2. Been to any good concerts lately?
  3. What is your favorite show right now?

Friday Favorites…Date Night, A Good Book, Pool Time, and Good Music

Hey guys!!  I hope your day is going well and you are getting ready for the weekend!!  This week seemed to drag by for me, but I sure am happy it is Friday!!  I have plans with one of my besties tonight to try out a new restaurant in town then tomorrow morning we are heading to my mom’s house so my stepdad can help my husband with a couple things for our new dining room table.  It is coming right along!

Last Friday night we tried a new-to-us Indian restaurant called Chauhan Masala House.

My cute date.

The atmosphere is very fun and lounge-like… unlike any Indian restaurant I have ever been to.  I order the fish of the day special and my husband order a meat dish (I think it was duck?).

We both loved our meals and enjoyed sitting at the bar for a change.

Last Sunday I was up bright and early to do some things around the house before heading to my mom’s pool with my friend Rachael.  We all had some reading to do while sipping on some Frose! 🙂

I also picked some fresh flowers for the week!  There is just something about fresh flowers that make me so happy!!

This is Riley ever time I take him out and try to get him to go potty.  He just finds a nice spot in the sun and lays down…. I don’t know if it is the new environment or what, but this puppy has not been a very good boy when it comes to going potty ever since we moved in our new house.  He was pretty good at my dad’s house, but for whatever reason he refuses to go to the bathroom unless we take him on a long walk.  So he has been going in his crate when we leave the house the past week or so and he is doing much better.  Surprisingly he isn’t too resistant to going in the crate.  I just hope he has learned his lesson and will start being better about using the potty outside versus just sunbathing all the time. 😉

Did I show you guys my new doggie nephew, Murphy, already?  I think so, but I just can’t get over how stinkin’ cute he is!! He and Otis love each other and I get like 10 videos a day of them playing, which just melts my heart.

On Monday night my husband and I headed to Nama for some happy hour sushi.  We were a little disappointed that the happy hour menu was so limited, but it was still good!

I got a roll with tofu in it, which I have never tried before.  It was pretty good!

After a quick dinner, we headed downtown to the Ryman to see Foster the People in concert.  It is not exactly my kind of music, but my husband found super cheap tickets and we decided to go!  It was really fun and now I definitely will be listening to their music more often!

Love this guy!

Have any of you read “Ask The Passengers”?  I just finished it and it is a great read!  It is about a young girl who struggles with defining herself as gay within the realm of society and her family.  It is a very easy read and I would highly recommend it!

That is all for today friends!!  I hope you all have a fun and relaxing weekend!!

  1. Current read?
  2. Weekend plans?
