Weekend Recap 3.26.17 … House News, A Comedy Show, A Migraine, and Yummy Food

Good morning friends!!  How was your weekend?  I could definitely use an extra day as I was a little under the weather for most of Saturday.  I had a terrible migraine that was so intense if I was not laying down in a dark room.  😦  I am feeling much better now so I am happy about that!

Last week, my husband and I went to the Predator’s game on Monday night.  We grabbed an early dinner at Amerigos before the game.

We won!!!  I always tell my dad and husband that I am good luck and so far that year that has been pretty accurate. 😉

My week was pretty uneventful… this is what the weather in Nashville looked like a few days last week and the forecast is calling for more rain.  😦

We were able to go do a little house hunting last week and we found one we really like and are officially under contract!!  It is new construction so we are hoping there won’t be any issues with the inspection (fingers crossed) and we actually got to pick a few of the finishes so that was fun!  We still have about a month before closing so we are hoping nothing goes wrong before then. 🙂 I will show ya’ll pictures once we get all moved in.

One of my easy go-to meals is pan seared salmon, roasted sweet potatoes, and stir-fried veggies with tamari (gluten free soy sauce).  I just used what I had on hand – onions, garlic, zucchini and asparagus.

I always make extras so I can have some for lunch or dinner the next day.

I walked in on this cute sight the other day and had to snap a picture.  This girl loves her daddy.  🙂

We got in a couple evening walks this past week.  I am loving how light it is when I get home from work now.

Isn’t nature just beautiful?

My husband was dying to go back to Kyoto for some sushi so we had a sushi date night on Friday night.  It was amazing as always.

We went to the new house on Saturday morning with the builder to go over a couple of things.  They are building a fence around the house for us so we had to explain our vision to them.  After that I spent the next few hours nursing my migraine and trying to sleep it off.  It wasn’t completely gone, but we had plans to go to Zanies comedy club.  We saw Kevin Pollak.  He was pretty funny, but the two openers were better in my opinion.

Sunday we went to show my dad and brother the new house and then did some furniture shopping.  Our new house is almost all hardwood (except the basement) so we are going to need some rugs!  We found quite a few that we like so we will be back to get them soon.

We also went to a few stores to look at new couches and dining room tables.  My husband is going to build us a farmhouse dining room table, but we wanted to look at a few different options before he starts the process.  These are a couple that we like.

My sweet hubs got me a smoothie for the ride so I didn’t get hangry. 😉

Last night we did some grilling (salmon for me, chicken for the boys and veggies for all) and it all turned out so yummy.

Riley loves to sleep under a blanket at the edge of the bed or couch.  Last night was no different. 🙂

I am up super early to drop my husband off at the airport for a business trip so I better get going!  I hope you all have a great week!!

Dallas Part 2 … The Best Sendoff Ever!

Happy Friday!!!   Are you guys as ready for the weekend as I am?  My husband and I have plans for sushi tonight and we have plans to go to a comedy show tomorrow night with some friends!  I can’t wait!!

Onto part two of our amazing last weekend in Dallas…

Saturday night my sister and her boyfriend arranged to have a going away party for us at their place.  We made mexican food for the party and it was a huge hit!

These boys can cook.

Little Otis helped set up for the party… 🙂

My sister spread out all of these pictures of us from our time in Dallas.  It was so fun to look back on all of the great memories.

They continued to the mirror where she got crafty and highlighted our moved from Texas to Tennessee.

And then I turn around and see this!!!! How cute are these little treat bowls with funny going away quotes on Texas paper!?!?

Our delicious spread!!

My sister even had these cute cups and napkins.

And she made a Texas shaped cake!!!  #besthostsever

Our sweet friend Shelby.  I really am going to miss these two.

We just hung out all night and played games and chatted.  Otis was over it by 11pm.

And as if that party and all the cute details wasn’t enough… my sister and her boyfriend got us a going away present of a bag filled with Texas stuff.  I may have shed a tear or two.

I really am going to miss being in the same city as my sister.  It went by wayyy too fast, but we already have our next visit with them planned so we will be looking forward to that!  It is time to go get this busy day started with a workout and a big ole cup of coffee!!!  Have a great Friday and enjoy your weekend!!!

  1. What do you have planned for this weekend?
  2. Do you drink coffee?  If so, how much per day?
  3. When buying or renting a house, besides location, what is one of the most important things to you?

Back to Dallas to Say Goodbye Part 1

Hi friends!!! I can’t believe it is already Wednesday!  This week is just flying by for me… actually this year is flying by for me.  I can’t believe it is almost April!!  I would like time to just sloooow down for a bit. 😉  Last weekend we were in Dallas with the movers and spent the rest of the time with my sister and her boyfriend so I am excited to share some pictures with you all today.  It was the perfect weekend sendoff to our amazing time in Dallas.  I can’t believe it is already over… it feels like we were just moving there yesterday.

Oh… as for the second house we put an offer on last week that had multiple offers on it… well, we didn’t get it.  So back on the hunt we go.  We are feeling a lot less stressed now that we are all moved out of our Dallas house so it is time to be patient and wait for the right house to pop up here in Nashville.  Until then we save our money and drive my dad nuts. 😉

My husband spent all of last week in Dallas and I flew down early Thursday morning after kissing my babies goodbye.

The movers spent all day boxing up our belongings on Thursday and then a good portion of Friday loading up the moving truck with everything.  They were thrilled with our 4-story home. 😉 After a long day on Thursday, we headed over to see my sister’s new apartment.  We grabbed a quick dinner at a new restaurant called Pok.  We took it to go and were so amazed at how good the food was.  My sister has been raving about this place and she was not exaggerating.  I would go broke if I lived near this place. 😉  I got the tuna/mango bowl and my mouth is watering just thinking about it now!!

We got in some sweet cuddles with little Otis.  He looks so serious in this picture.  🙂

Now look at him in this picture… can you spot his tongue? 😉 LOL so funny.

After dinner my sister and I worked on putting her new bookshelf together… that was fun. 😉

After the movers were finished on Friday afternoon we cleaned up the house and say goodbye for the last time.  This was my favorite house we have had so far and I really will miss it.  It was just so perfect for us and brings back so many good memories.  I hope the new owners love it as much as we did.

We quickly ran a few errands and then headed to my sister’s apartment where we spent the rest of the weekend.  Friday night we headed to Malai Kitchen, a thai restaurant that my sister and her boyfriend have been wanting to try.

We got a few appetizers to start including edamame and crab dip.  Yum!

I got the red curry cod with stir fried veggies and rice.  It was the best cod I have ever had!! My husband got some fancy type of ribs and loved them too.

After dinner we headed back to their apartment to work on putting together their two new desks for their new apartment.  My sister is in law school and her boyfriend is in grad school for his MBA…. so they needed two desks. 🙂  My sister and I got both of them put together by Saturday morning and were pretty proud of our work. 🙂

The boys were conveniently out shopping for a grill all morning. 😉

My sister and I ran on a nearby trail on Saturday and Sunday.  It has been a long time since I have gone on a run outside due to colder weather in Nashville and my treadmill being in Dallas.  (PS I can’t wait to get it back out!! I have missed it, but also enjoyed the break on my joints.)  My favorite running buddy!

Saturday afternoon I enjoyed a big salad for lunch out on the patio… with a side of Otis, my doggie nephew.

I will pick up here tomorrow as this post is getting a little long and I am ready for some dinner.  (I wrote this last night.:))  Have a wonderful day!!!

  1.  How was your weekend?
  2. What did you have for dinner last night?
  3. Anyone have a birthday in April?

A Big Ole Jumbled Mess

Good morning!! I hope your week is going well so far!  Mine has been pretty good, but very busy and quite tiring.  Ever since we moved to Nashville and I started my new job, life has been pretty hectic.  Don’t get me wrong, I am still loving my new job and living in Nashville, but it sure has been a big change (I am so so so exhausted at the end of each day).  I’m sure most of the exhaustion comes from being consumed with house stuff (on the buying and selling end) in most of our free time.  Thankfully at the end of this week we will be completely done with house stuff in Dallas and will be able to just focus on buying a house in Nashville.

You guys, the housing market in Nashville is insane.  It is extremely competitive and expensive.  Sorry, I just have to vent to you guys because my family is probably so sick of hearing us talk about it.  After terminating the contract we put on the first house, we saw quite a few more houses last weekend and end up putting in an offer on another house.  On Monday we found out that there are “multiple” offers on this house so we won’t know until the end of the week if we are still in the running.  I was talking to someone yesterday about how crazy this house hunting experience has been already and she said “God has a plan.”  I said “Yes he does and his plan is for us to live with my dad forever!!!”  LOL 😉 It will all work out, but for those of you who think I am being calm and patient during this process.. well I was at first, but I am just a LITTLE anxious over here right now. 🙂

As for the rest of this post, the title of the post explains it best. 🙂

I totally forgot to show you guys this picture at my friend Rachael’s house a few weeks ago.  This is what happens when you try to get 3 dogs looking at the camera.

My husband surprised me last week on Valentine’s Day with a vanilla latte from my pups before work.  It’s the little things.

A big salad with salmon and a side of polka dot pants.

I will admit I do like my veggies a little more crisp than most, but not completely burnt.  My dad’s oven is much hotter than mine and I have repeatedly burnt food since we have lived here.  I may or may not have set the oven on fire when I tried to broil something the other night.  I do not usually set a timer when I cook so I think it may be time to start. 🙂

Some nights just call for alllll the veggies. 🙂

Oh!  One thing I wanted to ask you guys!  What are your favorite at home workouts?  Do you get them online?  From a favorite blog or app?  I have been working out in my dad’s basement since we moved here and have loved not having to drive to a gym.  There are a few gyms I want to try out in that area once we find a house, but I don’t want to commit to one until we know where we will be living.  Nashville traffic is no joke these days.  🙂  Anyway, I am getting a little bored of the home workouts I have been doing (mostly Ashy Bine’s program) so if you have any suggestions of places to find good ones, I am all ears!!  I like cardio and strength training, but will try anything once!

  1. Favorite at home workout?  Best place to find them?
  2. What is something that is currently stressing you out?
  3. What are you currently reading?  (I know I promised a book review, but with the move, there hasn’t been as much reading around here lately. ;))

Weekend Recap 3.12.17…Homemade Pizza, More House Hunting, and Yummy Food!

Hi friends!  I can’t believe Monday snuck up on us so quickly!  Losing that hour of sleep is never fun either, but I am excited for it to be light out longer in the evenings now.  I am hoping to get in a few more walks with my pups during the week.

Life is still crazy as ever with work, moving, house hunting and trying to fit in time for family and friends.  I’ll be honest… I am pretty exhausted and ready for the move to be over.  So the house that we were under contract with in Nashville fell through.  It was an older house and it had some major issues that were uncovered during the inspection and we just weren’t willing to deal with them.  So… the hunt continues.  We spent a majority of Saturday and Sunday house hunting and we definitely saw some great options so we will see what happens.

Let’s back up a bit… Thursday night we had a make your own pizza night, which my little brother was pretty excited about!

This is where I told him about the importance of putting on a lot of cheese! 😉

And… I am still working on this scrapbook for my little brother.  It is taking forever! 🙂  Riley likes to help too. 😉

Saturday night we went to dinner with my mom and stepdad and I got the salmon and my husband got the crab stuffed trout.  Both dishes were soo yummy!

We took a couple walks with the dogs this weekend, did some workouts, did laundry, and some meal prepping.  So along with the house hunting, there wasn’t much time for anything else.  My husband snapped this picture of me in my element yesterday.  This is my usual Sunday afternoon activity..meal prepping for the week while catching up on my shows!  I am watching the second season of The Catch and just started the first season of Imposters and The Arrangement.  Have you guys started any good shows lately?

Off to work for a short, but busy week.  Later this week we are going to Dallas to be there when the movers arrive to empty our Dallas house.  It is a very bittersweet move, but I am so excited to see my sis!!  Have a great week, friends!

  1. How was your weekend?
  2. Watching any good shows right now?
  3. Favorite pizza toppings?

Weekend Recap 3.6.17…Girls Dinner, Scrapbooking, Saturday Night at the Hockey Rink, and a Very Special Birthday Celebration!

Good morning!!  I hope your weekend was amazing!  Mine was full of fun with friends and family.

On Friday night my childhood best friend and I had plans for a girls dinner at a fun new tapas restaurant in town called Barcelona.  We decided to split a bunch of small plates and they were so yummy.  I love having a little bit of lots of different foods.  My favorites were the brussel sprouts and the cauliflower.

Saturday morning after an early class at the gym, I headed to my mom’s house to work on a scrapbook for my little brother.  We ended up working for about 8 hours. 🙂

When I got home I cooked up a bunch of roasted veggies.

This kiddo requested a turkey burger and broccoli.  He is the only kid I know that loves broccoli.  🙂  The health coach in me loves that.

Saturday night my dad and husband had plans to go to the Predators game so I took my little brother to his hockey skills competition.  He did the backwards skating in his relay and crushed it!  I am a proud big sis!

The last team relay the kids had to skate to the other end of the ice and grab a cowboy hat.. it was so fun to watch.  My little brother’s team won the championship on Sunday night too!  So excited for him!

This is Callie’s favorite spot in our room at my dad’s house.  She is still obsessed with pillows.  🙂

These sweet sleeping boys are my favorite.

Someone had a little craving for rice crispy treats… well our marshmallows were just a tad bit expired and would not melt.. 🙂

My little brother turned 10 on Sunday and got this motorized scooter from my dad so yesterday morning we took it out for some practice.

We wrapped my brother’s door for his birthday.  He thought it was so funny.

Time for presents and funny balloons!

I made him a delicious ice cream cake and we surprised him when he got home from his hockey party!

I am so glad we are in Nashville now and can actually celebrate his birthday with him in person this year!!  I seriously can’t believe he is already 10!  I was 17 when he was born and that feels like so so so long ago!  He is such a sweet, funny kid and I am one lucky girl to call him my brother.  🙂

It sure was a good weekend, but it went by a little too fast.  Lots of house (selling/buying) stuff going on in between all of that too so I sure am looking forward to feeling a little more settled and having a bit more free time on my hands.  I hope you all have a great week!!

  1. What was the highlight of your weekend?
  2. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
  3. Best birthday memory?

Weekend Recap 2.27.17… Our First Visitors, Yummy Eats in Nashville, Predators Games and a Lot of Naps

Good Morning everyone!  I hope your week is going well so far!! I am quite aware of how sporadic my blogging has been lately and I sincerely apologize.  I am still trying to figure out how to fit it in my new daily schedule.

I have been super busy with work and trying to navigate through selling our Dallas home from our of the state while continually searching for our new Nashville home.  A little update on both ends… I probably shouldn’t  have spoken so soon with the contract we had on our Dallas home.  The buyer pulled out of the contract on the last day of the option period… It went back on the market last Friday and we actually got another offer on Monday and have come to an agreement with the new buyer.  Fingers crossed this one works out so we can really give our Nashville house hunting 100%.  We have gone to many open houses and toured a few houses in different neighborhoods with our realtor.  We are still pretty torn about exactly where we want to live (errrr…actually I think it is just that my husband and I have different opinions on best locations, new construction versus renovated, big yard versus small yard, etc.  Let’s just say our realtor sure does have her work cut out for her. 😉

Let’s back up to Friday night!  We met our realtor after work to tour a few houses.  Our biggest decision right now is if we want to pay top dollar for beautiful new construction that is basically on top of your neighbor or if we are willing to do some renovations.  I am willing to do cosmetic renovations, but knocking down walls is beyond our expertise. 😉  We have seen quite a few on both ends of the spectrum and Friday night was no different.

Afterwards, we met Jon’s brother and girlfriend at my dad’s house.  They were in town visiting from Des Moines, Iowa for the weekend.  After catching up briefly, we headed to The Yellow Porch for dinner.  They have a very enticing menu, but their specials page always draws me in!

I started off with a delicious beet and arugula salad with goat cheese and candied pecans. 🙂

My husband got the mussels and devoured them.

For my entree, I got the pan seared corvina.  Oh my gosh, it was simply amazing.  Ahh I want to go back so I can have it again!!!

My husband got the stuffed trout and loved his meal as well.

After dinner we stopped over at our friend’s house for a bit then called it a night.  On Saturday morning after a quick workout in the basement, my husband and I got to work on some breakfast.  Fresh cut fruit and cinnamon rolls were involved. 🙂

After breakfast we bundled up and took the dogs for a long walk in the park.  When we got back, we lounged around for a bit before heading downtown for a late afternoon Predators game!  We may have a little hockey obsession over here.  We had really good seats so that always makes it more fun!

Same couple selfie, different Preds game. 😉

And heck yes we won!! I think I am good luck. 🙂

After dinner we walked over to the Omni hotel because we had dinner reservations at a restaurant located inside called Kitchen Notes.

Oh! I totally forgot to mention about the most exciting thing that happened to me last week!  So I have a Predators jersey from the early 2000s when they had just been around for a little while, but it is in Dallas.  My dad got my husband a jersey for Christmas and I have been borrowing my brother’s jersey when we aren’t going to the game together.  Well… last Friday morning when I was working out in the basement, my brother came down to say bye to me before heading off to school.  He said he had a present for me before he left and he handed me a new Preds jersey that he and my dad had picked up Thursday at the game.  I almost started crying because it was such a sweet gesture.  🙂 🙂 🙂 Here I am on Friday night with my favorite new item of clothing!

Once we were seated the waitress brought out a big basket of different types of bread/biscuits and jams/butter.

Okay I just now realized I got a beet and arugula salad two nights in a row.  I think I could probably have it every night now that I think about it.  Any salad with goat cheese and candied pecans will always be a winner in my book.

For my entree I chose the salmon with the succotash.  It was so so so yummy!  I saved half of it for lunch the next day and it was just as good as the first time.

After dinner we headed to Broadway for a little bar hopping and some live music.

We met up with our friend Scott for a bit.  #meanmugging

We took my brother-in-law and his girlfriend to a few of the famous spots downtown then called it a night around 11ish.  We are so fun. 🙂

Sunday was spent catching up on laundry, doing some cleaning and house projects for my dad, meal prepping, doing stuff for our move, and taking a couple naps.  😉 It is nice to have a little downtime before another week begins!

I promise I will talk to you all before another week goes by!  P.S. I am still reading all of your blogs, but just haven’t had time to comment.  I am going to catch up sooner or later. 🙂

  1. How was your weekend?
  2. Would you rather have new construction or a house that needs renovations?
  3. How many jerseys (if any) do you own?
