January Reset… Who’s Going To Join Me?

Good morning friends!!  I can’t believe tomorrow is the last day of 2016!  Where has the time gone?  2016 has been a crazy year for me with many happy moments, quite a few trying times, a few big decisions and changes, and a lot of self discovery.  I would be lying if I said I was sad to see this year end; I am ready for a fresh start and I just know 2017 is going to be a great year!

So you may remember last year that I did a reset last January.  I gave up alcohol for the entire month of January.  This was quite a challenge as someone who loves to sip on a glass of wine while cooking dinner or toast with champagne for some “exciting” event.  Let’s just say… there is always a reason to celebrate, but that doesn’t mean alcohol always needs to be involved.  Listen, I love a good glass of wine (or two), but after over indulging over the holidays, it is usually time for a much needed reset.  But if alcohol isn’t your thing, that is totally fine too!

I would love for you all to join me in the January Reset where you choose your vice and abstain from it for the whole month.  If you are a coffee addict like me, this could mean switching up your morning cup of joe for a cup of tea or a glass of water.  If you are a chocoholic, this could mean choosing a piece of fruit after dinner to satisfy your sweet craving instead of reaching for that candy.  If you are like my mom and love a sweet treat (for breakfast), this could mean giving up baked goods for the month.  (My mom is giving up her sweets for the month of January.)

But hey, if you have got it covered in the physical health department, maybe giving up something less concrete is where you would benefit the most.  This could be gossiping or being judgmental.  It could be switching a negative comment to a positive one.  This is your reset.  Reset your body or your mind or both!  This is about you and giving up something that is hindering your goals or holding you back from becoming the person you want to be.  Whatever it is you decide to give up, make sure it is something realistic and something you can stick to.  For me, giving up coffee is just not an option right now, but giving up my few glasses of wine per week is something very doable for me…. not easy, but doable.

So who went a little overboard during the holidays?  I am sure most of us did and that is totally okay.  Holidays are the time of the year to relax and enjoy good foods, yummy drinks, and sweet treats with our loved ones without worrying about being extra indulgent.  But now is the time to make a commitment to get back on track!  The January Reset will help you do just that!!  Are you going to join me?!?!  I sure hope so!

Christmas in Indiana Part 2

Good morning!!  I hope your Wednesday is off to a good start!  I just got back from an early class at the gym so I am feeling great!  Exercising will always be my favorite way to start the day.  It just sets me up to make healthier choices throughout the day and puts my mind in a good place.

So back to where I left off yesterday with my recap of our trip to Indiana.   Sunday morning we opened presents!! My mother-in-law is the best gift giver ever.

And then we ate some breakfast!

A little later, I had an assortment of goodies for lunch!

And we played a bit of ping pong…my husband has to go easy on me.. he is a lot better than me. 😉

A few hours later, we gathered in the dining room for Christmas dinner.

We had a huge delicious meal of steak, swordfish, mashed potatoes, rice stuffing, green bean casserole, cornbread, and a pear and walnut salad.  So delicious!

Christmas cookies!

My brother-in-law got me the game Taboo for Christmas so we decided to play that night.  We were laughing hysterically and someone, who I won’t name, may or may not have peed his/her pants. 😉

My mother-in-law’s mom was a huge Cubs fan so my mother-in-law got us all shirts for a picture for her holiday card this year.  I know, dad, I told her it was against all my morals to wear a Cubs shirt.  🙂

That wraps up our trip to Indiana for Christmas!  We had such a fun and relaxing time with my in-laws over the weekend.   I am sad the holidays are coming to an end, but it is always nice to come home and get back into a routine.  I am soaking up our time at our house now because it won’t be long until we are officially in Nashville!

Christmas in Indiana!

Hi friends!! We are back from a wonderful Christmas in Indiana with my in-laws.  My husband is back to work this week and I am spending the week doing errands and getting ready for our move.

Let’s back up to last Thursday when we headed to Indianapolis for a long Christmas weekend.  We arrived early afternoon and just hung out until we headed downtown for the Pacers game.

A 6 person family selfie. 🙂

Friday we just hung around the house until early afternoon.  This little one was so happy to be in Indy.  He loves to run and run and run some more in my in-laws yard.

Late Friday afternoon we headed to the Murat theater to see Straight No Chaser.  They are an acapella group from Indiana and they are absolutely amazing.

They sang a bunch of current songs, fun songs, and Christmas songs.

Me, my husband and brother-in-law.

Love this guy!

Afterwards we went to Mimi Blue Meatballs for dinner.  They have the best beans and fried brussel sprouts! so yummy!

My husband and mother-in-law split this delicious maple pecan cookie. 🙂

Riley and I on a run.  This little guy was full of energy!

He got a new toy from my in-laws for Christmas and he wanted to play nonstop.

On Christmas Eve we spent the day watching movies and doing a puzzle.  Later we went to dinner at Sangiovese.

The food was absolutely amazing!!!

After dinner we headed to church for the candlelight service.

The family on Christmas Eve!!  Love these people!

I will finish up my recap of our trip to Indiana tomorrow!! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!!!

Christmas Survey

Hi friends!!  While you read this, we are on our way to Indiana for Christmas with my in-laws!  I will try to pop in while I am away, but I won’t make any promises. 🙂  I hope you all have a very happy and safe holiday weekend.  Enjoy this time with your loved ones and let’s all come back refreshed and ready to take on 2017!

Today I am sharing a fun Christmas survey I saw on Heather’s blog  yesterday.  I always love reading surveys so I hope you enjoy this one and feel free to play along in the comments!

12 Questions of Christmas:

  1. Eggnog – Yay or Nay? Nope, I have never liked it.
  2. Do you say “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays”? I always write Happy Holidays on our card each year, but I usually say Merry Christmas.
  3. Does your family have any special Christmas Eve traditions? When we were growing up, we would get Chinese takeout with my mom and grandma on Christmas Eve and then go to Midnight mass.
  4. What is your favorite Christmas song? All I want for Christmas is You or Santa Baby.
  5. What is your favorite Christmas memory? Coming home from Midnight mass and all the presents would be under the tree!  My sister and I believed in Santa a lot longer than all of our friends because of this… we later found out that our neighbors would put the presents under our tree while we were at church!  My mom was so sneaky!!
  6. What is your favorite Christmas movie? I love Elf and all the Santa Claus movies.
  7. What’s the best gift you’ve ever gotten? Hmm… probably my american girl doll or my barbie house that had an elevator in it…. or my cash register!
  8. Do you leave cookies out for Santa? Yes!
  9. Do you believe in Santa? If not, who convinced you that he’s not real? I did for a longggg time 🙂 … I can’t remember how I found out, but I was pretty devastated.
  10. Do you go caroling? I did a few times with my girl scout troop when I was younger.
  11. Have you ever gotten a kiss under the mistletoe? Umm… I don’t think so!
  12. Who would you most like to encounter under the mistletoe? My hubby.  🙂

  1. What is your favorite Christmas song?
  2. Favorite Christmas memory?
  3. Any special Christmas Eve traditions?

Date Night and Lots of Snuggles

Hi friends!!  How are you doing?  I am just trying to get through today to make it to our holiday break, which starts tomorrow!  We are headed to Indiana to my in-law’s house for the Christmas weekend and we are getting excited!!  This will be one last restful weekend before the moving craziness starts in early 2017.

On Sunday night my husband and I ventured out in the cold for our date night!

I have been wanting to try R & D Kitchen for awhile now because I have heard such great things!

And let me tell you… it was even better than we imagined.

I got the ahi tuna salad and it was so so so good! Definitely glad we gave this place a try before we move!

Our dog Riley is a pretty cuddly little guy, but often times he likes to go hide by himself under the bed or downstairs on his dog bed.  Well lately, he is all about momma.  He is sitting on my lap as I type this up.  Over the weekend, this is where you could find us 80% of the time.  I just love his little cuddles.

My husband loves this too…. Riley has made himself quite comfortable in our bed the last few nights.  He is funny and sleeps on his side like a human.  Such a sweetie!

Well that is all I have for today.  I am off to pack for colder weather!!

  1. Are you working this week?
  2. What are your plans for the holidays?
  3. What are you having for dinner tonight?

Nashville Trip Recap

Good morning!!  How is your week going?  I had all intentions of blogging yesterday, but the day just got away from me so here we are… starting the week on a Tuesday… not unusual around here. 🙂 My husband and I just got back from our annual biometric screenings for money back on our health insurance plan so that was fun. 😉 We did reward ourselves with some Starbucks afterwards so I suppose the blood draw was worth it.

Yesterday was spent running lots of errands and getting ready for the photographer to come over to take pictures of our house for when it goes on the market.  You should see our closets right now. 😉 The pictures came out great so I am glad to check that off the to-do list.  You would think we would be pros at moving since we have done it so much, but every time it seems like there is so much more to do than the last time.

Anyway.. let’s back up to last week in Nashville.  I went to Nashville for a couple job interviews and stayed an extra day to hang out with my mom and sister (she was in Nashville for her Christmas break from law school).  My dad picked me up from the airport on Wednesday morning and I headed to my first interview.  After that my dad suggested we go to Mere Bulles for lunch and I never turn down a good meal.

We both got salads and they were yummy!!

Wednesday night I met my best friend Rachael and one of her good friends for dinner at Virago.  I forgot to snap any pictures, but the sushi was phenomenal!

Thursday morning I had another interview and followed that with a workout from Julie over at PBFingers.com.  It was a good one!

Then we had some champagne while I braided my sister’s hair.

My sister got this puzzle for my mom for Christmas. We started it, but 1000 pieces is a lot!

My mom and stepdad made us some fish, rice, and roasted squash for dinner at home.

Friday morning my mom treated my sister and I to facials at a local spa.  They were amazing and so relaxing.  And then we spent some time watching Gilmore girls.  My mom is watching from the beginning.  Have you guys seen the new season?  I haven’t watched it yet, but need to get on that!

My sister and I grabbed a quick lunch from Zoes to eat at home.  Have you guys tried their quinoa salad?  It was really good!

Friday afternoon we had to pick up bags of donated clothing and toys from a house to take to church.  My mom is in charge of a charity at her church and they collected toys and clothing for 80 families this year.

There are going to be some happy kids on Christmas morning!  My sister and I got the job of organizing the toys.

Friday evening I flew back to Dallas and we had a quite night in.  I was exhausted.  I don’t have any pictures to show for this past weekend because it was spent cleaning and napping. 🙂

I hope you all have a wonderful week!

  1. How was your weekend?
  2. Are you ready for the holidays?
  3. Is it cold where you live?  It is supposed to get up to 50 today in Dallas.

A Birthday Surprise and Dallas Stars Game

Well I made it to Nashville and it is freezing.  I thought it was cold in Dallas.. nope.  Anyway.. Tuesday night my sister organized a little surprise birthday night for her boyfriend, Max, at their apartment.  She got lots of appetizers, pizza, and the cutest little cakes to celebrate.

My sister told her boyfriend that they were just going out to dinner to celebrate his birthday, but when he got home from work me, Jon and another friend were there waiting.  Later on two more friends showed up and he was so shocked.  I just love seeing people so surprised!

The boys.

Happy Birthday to Max!!

Otis helped his open his presents. 🙂

After dinner we headed downtown for the Dallas Stars game.  My sister used to work for the Stars so she was able to score us some tickets!!

This was our failed attempt at a 7 person selfie. LOL.

Oh my gosh so funny story.  My sister pulls out this lip stick that is from Kylie Jenner’s lip kit and I was laughing and couldn’t believe she bought it.  She reassured me that she just bought the lip stain, but that it looked horrible on her.  Well the bottle makes the color look so light so I decided to try it.  I’m not a huge fan of color on my lips, but the bigger issue is trying to make sure it stays put all night.  I ended up with it all over my teeth and face.  #lipstainnewbie

Me and my sweet hubs.

My sister and the birthday boy!

After the second period, we went to the Lexus club and got a drink and watched the rest of the game from there.  We had a blast cheering on the Stars!

They won 6 to 2 so it was a big scoring game!

We are sure going to miss these two when we move. 😦

Enjoy your Thursday!!

  1. Do you like surprises?
  2. Favorite sporting event to attend?
  3. Any plans for the weekend?

Cancun Mexico Part 2 … Vacation Versus Adventure

Hi guys!  Well it is already Wednesday and by the time you are reading this (I am writing this Tuesday) I will be on my way to Nashville for the rest of the week.  I have a couple things to do in Nashville to get ready for our move so off I go!

My husband and I often talk about the difference of a vacation and an adventure.  An adventure to us is exploring a new place while immersing ourselves into the culture and seeing all the popular attractions and local favorites.  A vacation to us is about relaxing and reading a good book, but not worrying about “seeing” or “doing” too much.  While our big London/Amsterdam trip was definitely an adventure, our Cancun trip was most certainly a true vacation.  Before we even got to Mexico, we planned to “not plan” anything.  During previous trips to Mexico, I have swam with the dolphins, deep sea fished, snorkeled, and explored the town, but this time we didn’t even want to leave the resort.  So we didn’t.  And it was exactly what we needed.  It was truly so relaxing and nice to not have an agenda.

This is where I spent all day on Sunday.  It was lovely.

The water is so clear and beautiful.

We have decided we are going to make this a yearly tradition.  It was the perfect time to get away.  Although we both love the holidays, they can be a pretty stressful time especially with our families in different places.  This was a special time for us to just reflect on how blessed we are and really enjoying the holidays.  Can you see the rainbow in the picture below?

Lucky girl. 🙂

The resort had a cute little espresso bar too so every day after the pool we would grab an espresso or two.  Espresso and champagne are my favorites.  Not together, of course. 😉

Saturday night we got ready early and headed to the theater for a drink before dinner and ended up playing a round of scrabble.  Did I tell you guys that I love games?

The huge Christmas tree in the lobby. 🙂

Saturday night we went to the Steakhouse restaurant for dinner.

So yummy!

When we ordered a drink after dinner while waiting for the show, the bartender gave me two glasses of champagne.  For the record, I did not drink that big one! LOL!

Sunday morning we went to the gym bright and early before catching an hour or two by the pool before getting ready to head home.  We had one last amazing lunch… I had a salad the size of my head and it was delicious!

We had such a great time on our vacation and I can’t recommend this all-inclusive resort enough!  The food and drinks were soo good and the staff was truly amazing!  We will definitely be back!  I hope to check in with you all tomorrow or Friday!  Have a great rest of the week!

  1. Favorite cocktail?
  2. Pool or beach?
  3. Appetizer or dessert? Or both?

Cancun Mexico Trip With Jonny

Hi friends!!  I hope you Tuesday is off to a good start.  My started on a rather….icky note due to a furry little guy thinking it was okay to potty inside last night… My dogs are very well behaved and potty trained, but every once in a while.. I won’t name any names (eh hem… Riley…) one of the pups decides he isn’t going to wait until he gets to go outside.  Fortunately the accident was not on carpet… unfortunately I walked right into it my gym shoes this morning in the dark while getting ready to run on my treadmill.  So yeah.. it has been one of THOSE days already and its not even 9am.

But let’s focus on the positive, shall we?  My husband and I just got back from the most amazing vacation ever in Cancun, Mexico!!  After a hectic morning last Wednesday (my husband forgot his backpack at home when we were on the way to the airport) and a flight connection from hell (for some reason my name was under our reservation twice and my boarding pass wouldn’t let me board our connecting flight to Mexico… they worked to fix it for 20 minutes… meanwhile my husband is on the plane freaking out that I am not going to get on and I’m freaking out thinking he is going to Mexico without me… they finally got it fixed with about 1 minute to spare..).  Needless to say, we were more than ready to get to Mexico and our resort when we finally arrived late Wednesday afternoon.

We took a short shuttle ride to our hotel, Riu Palace Las Americas.  This was the first time my husband had stayed at an all-inclusive resort so he was pretty skeptical.  I had been to Cancun and all inclusive resorts quite a few times over the years and think it is the way to go for a relaxing, stress-free vacation in the sun.  This resort is absolutely stunning and did not disappoint!

I have stayed at Riu resorts before and while they are all pretty nice, this one was exceptionally nice.  It is also an adults-only resort so I think they definitely helped with the peaceful atmosphere and everything is geared towards adults so that is nice.

There are 5 or 6 restaurants in the resort and none of them require reservations, which is always nice.  There is one buffet and the rest are sit-down dining.

The food was amazing.  So fresh and tasty.  My husband was so skeptical that the food wouldn’t be good at an all-inclusive, but even he raved about it.  On our last day he said, “well I didn’t have one bad meal.” so I think that explains how good it was!

The resort was beautifully decorated with lots of lights for the holidays.  We went to the nightly show (different every night) most nights, but our favorite was the star impersonations show.  They did Brittney Spears, Elvis, Beyonce and more.  It was amazing!

I am proud to say that all 4 mornings we were there we made it to the gym!  We also played lots of games/sports during the day.  My husband loved the ping pong tournament… until a guy almost 3 times his age beat him. 🙂 🙂 🙂

I did more lounging… and swimming up to the bar.

I mean.. a cold pina colada on a hot day… doesn’t get much better than that.

Speaking of the weather.. it was amazing!  In the 70s and 80s every day except for a little scattered rain on Sunday.  We weren’t too upset though… we just sat under covering and read our books!

The pool is more our kind of place, but we did take a couple walks on the beach.

I loved having lunch at the resort and piling my plate high with a big ole salad!  yum!

Oh and mimosas and beer with lunch :).

My husband entered the football throwing contest… he did not win. 😉

The entertainers asked us if we walked to play water volleyball… we said sure why not.  They later told us it was tequila volleyball.  Every time you missed the ball, they poured tequila in your mouth… Tequila is not my thing so I tried my hardest. 🙂

Thursday night we went the theater before dinner for a little Black Jack.  Thankfully it was fake money. Gambling stresses me out. 😉

I’m better at drinking pina coladas. 😉

Thursday and Friday nights we went to the Japanese restaurant because we loved it so much!

We may have had that sushi platter times 3! 🙂 So yummy!

Love this guy!!  So grateful for time away from work and our crazy schedule to spend quality time together.  It is so important to us.

I will finished recapping our wonderful trip to Mexico tomorrow!! I hope you all had an amazing weekend!

  1. What was the highlight of your weekend?
  2. How is your morning going?  Better than mine I hope. 😉
  3. What re you eating for lunch today?

2017 New Year’s Resolutions

I will admit, I used to be one of those people that attempts every year to make a bunch of new year’s resolutions, but ultimately fails at most of them come mid January.  The past few years have been a little different for me.

Instead of setting the goal of hitting the gym every day (so unrealistic to me), I choose to make it a priority to listen to my body and its’ needs.  If that means running  5 miles one day, great.  If that means resting and taking leisurely walks for an entire week, that is what I will do.  Of course exercise is great for the body, but it is pretty easy to cross that line and go overboard…especially for me.

I look at my health/eating goals in the same aspect.  In my day to day life, I aim to eat healthy at least 80% of the time… not because I HAVE to, but because this is what makes me feel my best.  However, if I want a handful of chocolate chips, you betcha I am going to eat them.

So I guess in terms of resolutions/goals, the new year doesn’t mean much in terms of health because I have the same goals/resolutions every single day.  The new year to me means a new, fresh start.  It means a chance to really dive into my deeper intentions.

A big goal for 2016 for me was to be less judgmental.  It is something we all do, whether we realize it or not.  I am totally guilty of this every day of my life and I am certainly not proud of it.  I have gotten better about it this year, but this goal is still at the top of my list for 2017.  Every time I feel judgment coming on, I try to remind myself that everyone is different and you never know what someone is going through.  We can only control how we act or react, not how others do so it is important to approach every situation/conversation without judgment.

Another goal of mine is something that has been on my mind for a long time, but I will admit, I have failed miserably over and over again.  With the constant relocating every 2-3 years that comes along with my husband’s job, this brings upon a lot of different emotions.  I am grateful for all the wonderful opportunities we have had to live in different places, meet new faces, and explore new cultures.  But, knowing we are going to move in a couple years makes it difficult to even desire new friendships because I know we will be leaving before long.  Thankfully, my husband is very outgoing and loves making new friends so we do have a lot of great friends from each place we have lived.  But I will say, most of these friendships were not initiated by me.  My husband calls me an introverted extrovert.  I am very outgoing when I am around people I know, but I am quite shy when it comes to meeting new people.  My goal when we move in 2017 is to get involved in our new community right away and make an effort to meet new friends.  This will be especially hard for me since I already have a few old friends in Nashville, but I am going to be proactive to make my own friends.  Having a good group of friends is not only important to me, but it is an important part of my relationship with my husband.  We do a lot together, but we both recognize the importance of having our own groups of friends and making sure we have our time apart.

So this is where I am at currently for my 2017 resolutions.  I want to be less judgmental and I want to get outside of my comfort zone and get involved in my new community and make new friendships.  I’m sure more will be added as the year goes on but these will be my primary focus for a while. 🙂

So now tell me…

  1. Do you set new year’s resolutions/goals?
  2. If so, what are yours for 2017?
  3. If you set some for 2016, did you follow through?
