Thanksgiving Week Recap Part 2

Good morning!!  I hope you all are getting back into the swing of things after the Thanksgiving holiday.  I am definitely feeling the earlier wake up calls and really need to work on getting to bed earlier.  Always a struggle for me.

Back to the second half of my Thanksgiving week recap!  After the race Thursday morning, we went straight home and got cooking.  We had friends coming over around 2pm and planned to eat around 4pm.

My sweet Callie girl needed lots of loving in this new-to-her place.  She is quite the homebody and takes a while to warm up to new places and new people.

One of the two buffet tables!

I made the chocolate peanut butter pie on the left and our friends made the strawberry trifle!

After dinner we sang happy birthday to my daddy using the pumpkin pie! 🙂

Then we did the dishes and these two knew just where to stand. 😉

The boys and Otis.

Love my little family.

The kids!

Friday morning we met my mom and stepdad for breakfast and then went with my mom to the food closet.  My mom runs the food closet at her church and the day after Thanksgiving is a big day of organizing because church attendees bring non-perishable food items to the alter to donate on Thanksgiving.  With all 6 of us it only took a little over an hour and we all enjoyed being able to give back!

Friday night we went to another Predators game with my dad.  They won again!

Saturday was a lazy day full of movies and naps.  That night we had a family dinner with my mom and stepdad at Jimmy Kellys.  We got some appetizers to split and all really enjoyed our meals.

Sunday morning I dropped of my husband, sister, and her boyfriend at the airport to head back to Dallas.  I spent a good portion of Sunday making and decorating Christmas cookies with my momma.  She makes a bunch of different kinds every year to give to her friends and neighbors.  I forgot to snap a picture, but let’s just say that a 5 year old could have decorated them better than I did. 😉

And before I knew it, my alarm was ringing at 3:30am on Monday morning for me (and the dogs) to get up and hit the road for Dallas.  These two were not amused.

That wraps up my holiday travels to Nashville for Thanksgiving.  It was such a nice week filled with lots of fun activities and rest, which in my opinion, is the best kind of vacation.  I am getting pretty excited to live near my parents and little brother and to be able to see them more often!

I hope you all have a great Wednesday!!  Stay warm!

  1. Did you travel for Thanksgiving?
  2. Did you shop on Black Friday or Cyber Monday?
  3. If you did shop, what was the best deal you got?

Exciting News and A Thanksgiving Week Recap Part 1!

Hi guys!  I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving and had some time to relax and eat yummy food with loved ones.  We sure did.  I actually just got back to Dallas yesterday afternoon so I am slowly getting back into the swing of things.  I made the 10 hour car ride with the 3 pups and boy was it a long one!

Before I start recapping last week in Nashville with my family, I have some very exciting news to share!  If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you may have seen my announcement this afternoon.  We are officially moving to Nashville, TN in early 2017!  We are so excited!!!  As I have mentioned before, our long term plan was to hopefully end up in Nashville one day, but this day came a lot sooner than we expected.  We had been anticipating a move early next year (for my husband’s career), but we were fully expecting to end up in a different state.  In mid October, my husband was presented with an opportunity to move to Nashville and we were both in shock!  We started getting excited, but realistically we didn’t think it would really end up happening.  Fast forward a couple weeks… and it is official!  We are not expecting this move to be permanent, but we are happy to take what time we can get to live near friends and family in Nashville. The one downside is leaving my sister, her boyfriend, and their pup in Dallas.  I get teared up just thinking about it.  It has been so so so nice getting to spend so much time with them these last two years.

So I hope that helps explain my sporadic blogging these last few weeks… life has been a little hectic. 😉  This also explains my mom deep cleaning our house and my mother-in-law visiting (she helped us paint a lot of our house).  Thank the lord for our mommas!  We don’t have an exact moving date yet as we will wait for our house to sell in Dallas (in 2017) and then start really looking in Nashville.  I will be sure to update you guys along the way!!

Let’s rewind back to a week ago at 4am.  This was my view as we began our 10 hour car ride from Dallas to Nashville.  The pups were very curious why we woke them up so early.

We arrived early afternoon and my dad and I took the pups to the park for a long walk.  We all needed to move after that car ride!  At least Riley was looking at the camera…

After our walk we headed to a new-to-me restaurant called Wild Iris.  We ran into my dad’s friends and grabbed a drink at the bar with them before sitting down for dinner.

I got the salmon and I can’t even explain how good it was.  It came with this kale pesto and a bunch of roasted veggies.  Mmmm mmm mmm!

Tuesday morning I headed to the grocery store bright and early to shop for Thanksgiving dinner and avoid the crowds before picking up my husband at the airport.  He had to work that day, but later on we headed to the park for another walk with the doggies.

Then we met up with my favorite french fry loving little brother and dad for a quick dinner.

The dogs made themselves right at home.  🙂

Wednesday was spent baking and lounging around before heading to dinner and the Predators (hockey) game!!

How hilarious is my brother’s face in this picture?  The guy next to us told him, “Someday soon you will like that!” 😉  We love this boy so much!!

My husband went to grab a drink and came back and said to my brother, “The cameraman wants you to dance for him!!”  (Side note: my little brother LOVES to get on the Jumbo-tron at the games so he was SO excited!)  They ran up the stairs and waited for the whistle to blow.

The cutest!!!

Thursday morning, Jacob and I woke up super early to get ready for the annual Boulevard Bolt (Thanksgiving Day 5 mile race).  We sported our Santa hats for the race too. 🙂

My husband and best friend, Lissa, made signs and cheered us on throughout the race!  So fun to see them!

We had a blast, but we were happy when we finally saw the finish line!!! So proud of this boy!

If you made it this far, thank you for reading. 🙂 I will finished up my Thanksgiving week recap tomorrow!!!  Have a great night!

  2. Did you run a race on Thanksgiving?

Weekend Recap 11.23.16 …Mom Visits and Family Dinner

Hi friends!!  I hope your Thanksgiving week is going by nice and quickly and that you all get to share a nice meal with friends and/or family tomorrow.  The cooking has already begun around here and I am getting excited for tomorrow!  We are currently in Nashville visiting my parents for the week.  My mom and I drove to Nashville from Dallas on Monday (we left at 4am) with my two dogs and my sister’s dog.  It was a long 10 hours, but we played crossword puzzles so it went by pretty quickly.  Jon and my sister have arrived now and my sister’s boyfriend comes tomorrow.  It has been go go go ever since I arrived, which is always fun.  I will share more of my Thanksgiving week either Friday or next week, but before then here is a recap of last weekend in Dallas!!

We got lots of cuddles from this sweet pup.  She is the cutest!

My mom came to town on Friday to help me make the drive back to Nashville so I could bring all the pups.  My mom loves cute little bakeries so we made sure to make a couple stops to Boulangerie for pastries and sandwiches.

My mom spent a lot of time deep cleaning our house (I know I know, she is awesome) and Riley found a new bed in our shelf and watched her. 🙂

We spent a lot of time playing a new-to-us card game called Vantage.  We found it in our game drawer and have no idea where it came from.  It took us a while to catch on, but it was super fun once we figured it out.

Nothing beats a cold fall night with some football and candles.

Saturday night we went to my husband’s aunt and uncle’s house for dinner.   Their girls were in town with their boyfriends and a few other family friends came too.  We had the most amazing salmon dip for an appetizer along with some other goodies.

We had lots of yummy food for dinner including a rice stuffing I brought that I was dying to try.  It was delicious!

And of course, we can’t forget dessert!

We spent Sunday at church, Home Depot, the grocery store, and finished the night with dinner at home with my sister and her boyfriend followed by a few rounds of Vantage.  Monday morning we woke up at 3:30am to get ready for our long roadtrip!

I hope you all have a fantastic Thanksgiving!!!  I am so thankful for all my readers!  I really appreciating you reading my randomness and for all the sweet comments and messages!

  1. Favorite card game?
  2. Do you like macaroons?
  3. Do you like candles as much as I do?

Friday Favorites

Hi Friends!  Happy Friday afternoon!! The weekend is here!  I am stopping in a bit later today because I had a pretty busy morning starting at 5am when my alarm clock went off for an early morning class at the gym.  I just love starting my day that way.  Then it was off to the grocery store to fill the fridge before I headed to the airport to pick up my momma!  She is in town for the weekend so it should be a good one!  We just love having visitors!

In true Friday Favorites fashion, I will share my favorites from the week in no particular order!

I just can’t get enough of this snack/light lunch combo of two rice cakes, avocado, hard boiled egg white, garlic powder, chili powder, salt, pepper, and a little olive oil.  So good!

This sweet girl came over yesterday and is staying with us for the weekend.  All she wants to do is play with my two pups.  Callie and Riley would rather sleep. 🙂

She loves Jon too.

Today we met my sister and her boyfriend for lunch at Eureka.  We were all pretty hungry so we started with a few appetizers.  These crispy brussels sprouts are my absolutely favorite.

Love these two.

I got the beet salad with salmon and it came with watermelon pop rocks on it!!  Do you guys remember these things from childhood??

My husband got the lobster tacos!! yummmmy!

That about wraps up the highlights of my week!! I hope you guys all have a wonderful weekend!!!

  1. Any fun plans for the weekend?
  2. What is one food/candy that reminds you of your childhood?
  3. Sweet potato or regular fries?

Random Mid-week Thoughts

Hey guys!  How is your week going?  This week is feeling quite slow moving to me, but I know Friday will be here before we know it.

Currently I am trying to get all my Christmas shopping done (I know, who am I?) because I am leaving for Nashville next Monday for Thanksgiving and we won’t see  my family this year for Christmas so early gift giving it is.  I am almost done, but I have to run to the mall today for a couple more things and that should be it!  I am hoping to get Christmas cards started this week too… Love the holidays.. could do without all the prep work. 😉  My dining room table is currently a disaster from all my gift wrapping activities.

So if you missed it on Monday on my Instagram, I’ll show you how we were feeling around here earlier this week…LOL.  Luckily we have caught up on the zzz’s.

This little guy is currently sitting on my lap because he is on one this morning.  He is not a yippy little dog, but once in a while he will sit by the door and bark/growl at everything and anything that moves.  Today is one of those days.  So now he is in time out in my lap…. I don’t mind it. 😉

It is finally feeling a little fallish in Dallas this week.  Chilly mornings and evenings!  However.. today is supposed to be a high of 86.. what the heck!

Oh I finally got some new running shoes!  I have been needing them for a while now (my other ones have big holes in them) so Monday I went to Luke’s Locker and picked out a pair.  I ended up with Nike’s for my running pair.  I usually only use Nike’s for strength training, but these felt really comfortable so we will see.  The last pair I had were Saucony’s and I loved them.

Incredibly random, but I recently got an electric toothbrush and it is life-changing, ya’ll!  I feel like my teeth get a much better clean and I don’t have to work so hard = win win!

My momma is coming into town on Friday and I can’t wait!!  We have some fun things planned for the weekend so it should be really fun!

My sister gave me this ring for my birthday.  I am in love with it.  I saw her wearing it a while ago and mentioned that I loved it and she remembered!  The picture doesn’t do it justice.. it is gold with diamonds.

Speaking of birthday gifts, my dad gave me a gift certificate for a few massages and I am thinking I should get one this week.  I am so sore from a couple Body Pump classes.

These two.  The blonde doggie is Cora.  We watch her quite a bit because her momma travels a lot for work.  She loves my dog Callie.  The feeling is not mutual. 🙂

Well that’s all the randomness I have for you today!  Check back tomorrow for a post about another favorite vitamin/supplement of mine!

  1. Do you use an electric toothbrush?
  2. Do you send out holiday cards each year?
  3. Are you an early or last minute shopper?

Weekend Recap 11.14.16 … Friendsgiving, Painting, and a Special Visitor

Good morning!!  How was your weekend?  Mine was wonderful!  It was filled with a lot of productivity and relaxation, which is the best combo in my opinion.

First I would like to apologize for my lacking of regular blogging lately.  There has been a lot going on over here lately, which has taken time away from blogging.  I hate to be so ambiguous, but I will update you all as soon as I am able.

Anyways.. back to the recap!  Last Wednesday evening, my mother-in-law arrived in Dallas for a long weekend.  We had plans to re-paint some of the walls in our house and the baseboards since they have suffered a bit of damage due to the 500 dogs we always have in our house. 🙂  My mother-in-law loves to paint so we tricked her into helping us. 😉

By the end of the weekend, we finished the job and had a couple dogs covered in paint…

On Friday I made a batch of butternut squash soup and boy, it hit the spot.  I am still perfecting the recipe a bit so once it is finalized (soon) I will share it with you!

I made a batch of gluten free chocolate chip brownies (Trader Joe’s brand) for dessert on Friday night.  My sister and her boyfriend joined us for some soup and salmon and veggies on the grill.

Saturday morning we took the pups on a walk to get coffee and bagels.  We currently have 3 extra pups with us right now.  I am in doggie heaven.  My husband wants to kill me. 😉

The rest of Saturday was spent food prepping for a Friendsgiving we were invited to that evening.  I found this recipe while browsing pinterest and knew I had to try it.

It sure was good!  And a big crowd pleaser!

We had tons of delicious food at Friendsgiving!

And some yummy drinks too!  Okay.. I am not a whiskey drinker, but my husband enjoys one every once in a while.  So I know you guys have heard of Blue Apron… but did you know there is a company that does the same thing, but for drinks instead of food?  I didn’t either! 🙂  Our friends were telling us that you can tell them what kind of alcoholic drink you want and how many people you will be hosting.  They send you glasses and all the ingredients and you mix your own drinks.  You can order bartenders too, if you want.  I thought this concept was so neat especially with drinks where you use special simple syrups or bitters that you only need a little bit of each.  This way you don’t have to buy a whole bottle of something you will only use once or twice.

Okay, how cute is my friend?  She had all the guests (probably around 30 people) play this bingo get-to-know-you game.  You had to find the person in the room that each fact belonged to and get them to sign the specific square.  Once you got them all signed, you won.  It was such a fun ice breaker and forced you to interact with everyone and meet new people.  I loved it!

This piece of art had me laughing. 🙂

I thought my friend couldn’t get any cuter… but then she did.  She made these nutella cake pops with the cutest note on them. I just love personal touches at a party.

Then my husband found the hats. 😉

We had such a blast at Friendsgiving!!

Sunday morning we headed to church then Home Depot for a couple more painting supplies.  We spent the day painting and walking the pups.

We drove to The Rustic for dinner, but then quickly realized the Dallas Cowboys game was on and the place was sooo loud so we opted to head to another restaurant to enjoy a more peaceful dinner. 🙂

We headed to Fernandos for some tex mex!

I got the shrimp tacos and completely devoured them!

Such a great end to a fantastic weekend!

Off to go drink my second cup of coffee this morning!  Have a great day friends!

  1. How was your weekend?
  2. What is your favorite side dish on Thanksgiving?
  3. What do you order at a Mexican restaurant?

Weekend Recap 11.7.16….The Best Birthday Surprise of my Entire Life!

Hi friends!! How was your weekend?  My weekend was the best I have had in a long time!  It was full of birthday surprises with my favorite people and it certainly made me realize how lucky I am to have such sweet people in my life.

My sister told me last week that we would celebrate my birthday on the weekend and I just assumed it would be a dinner with Jon, me, my sister and her boyfriend.  Boy was I wrong.

Let’s back up to Friday… I went to an early morning class at the gym then headed home to get some work done.  My little nephew dog, Otis, sat on my lap while I worked. 🙂

Around 10am I had a conference call that lasted a little over an hour.  After the call I was getting ready to head to the store to shop for food for our neighborhood block party I was planning for Sunday afternoon.  My husband was working from home on Friday and called me into his office to “read an email” he got.  When I got down to the office I starting reading an email on his computer and 2 seconds later the closet door opens and out jumps my best friend Lissa!! I was in complete shock!!  (Side note: I am not an easy person to surprise!)

Lissa told me she was here for the whole weekend and was going to help me plan the party for Sunday night.  We did a little grocery shopping then headed over to Truck Yard for a drink with Jon and my sister.

After a while we headed home to get ready for dinner.  I was still so surprised Lissa was in town, but definitely thought that she was the only surprise.  When we walked outside our house to wait for the Uber, Jon told me our neighbors were coming to dinner too!

My sister made reservations at Cedar Grove, a new upscale restaurant in Dallas.  All the tables are lined with these white “trees” creating a really fun environment.  When we arrived, my sister and a few friends were at the table with big “27” balloons waiting for us!

My sister told us we were waiting on her boyfriend, Max, who was running late.  A few minutes later he walked in with my other best friend, Rachael.  Then the happy tears started flowing!  I just couldn’t believe it… especially since I had just seen Rachael in Nashville a couple days earlier.  Little did I know that my husband and sister had been planning with Rachael & Lissa for a while now to have them fly from Nashville to Dallas to celebrate my birthday with me.  I uploaded the video of Rachael surprising me at dinner to my youtube channel if you want to see it. 😉

Jon and my sister know how important these girls are to me so for them to organize their visit is something I will never forget.  Good girlfriends are hard to find so when I get to see my besties, I enjoy every moment of our time together.

Oh and did I mention how amazing the food was??  It was SO good!  We all enjoyed out meals and yummy drinks!

The whole gang!

All the girls!

Love these people!

After dinner we headed to a nearby bar, High Fives, for another drink and some jenga playing.  We had a blast!

Saturday morning we headed to brunch at Origin, which included some mimosas! 🙂

Afterwards we headed to SMU on the boulevard to hang out with some friends.  Before every home football game, people gather on the boulevard for drinks and food.  I don’t think many people actually go to the game. 🙂

Saturday evening we were all exhausted so we decided to pick up some food and watch a movie at home.  It was wonderful!  We were all asleep by around 8 or 9pm. 🙂

Sunday morning we woke up early and feeling refreshed especially after the extra hour of sleep!  The girls (and Max) headed to the dog park to let the pups run out their energy.  Rachael and I found a grassy area to complete a tabata workout.  My abs are hurting today. 🙂

PS.. isn’t it weird how I get holes in my shoes right where my big toe is?  This happens to all of my running shoes and strength training shoes… I guess I just walk and run with my big toe pointed up?  So weird!

Then we tried to take a picture of the 4 girls and 4 dogs and this is what 99% of the pictures looked like…

Picture #139204839 … at least all the girls are looking.  🙂

Sunday after the park, we all got to work setting up for our neighborhood block party.  Unfortunately the weather was not ideal so we moved our party to a neighbor’s garage.  It ended up working out just fine!  We had a huge spread and everyone brought a dish or two.

Couldn’t have pulled it off without the help of these friends!

Shortly after the party began, these girls had to head to the airport for their flights back to Nashville.  😦

This weekend was my favorite!!  It was full of fun and relaxation with my best friends and family.  I am SO blessed to have these amazing people in my life who go above and beyond to make me feel special.  I am still feeling the love even though the weekend has come to an end. Thank you to everyone who made my birthday the best one yet!

Nashville Trip… Food, Family & Fun

Hi ya’ll!  Long time no talk!  On Tuesday, my husband and I headed to Nashville for a couple days.  He had some work to do there so I decided to tag along so I could spend some time with my family and friends.

Shortly after we arrived we headed to California Pizza Kitchen for a late lunch.  I had the best salad! Yum!

Tuesday evening my dad and I surprised my little brother at his hockey practice.  He was so happy to see us.  He is such a good skater; I am so jealous of his skills. 🙂

After practice, my dad and I grabbed takeout to eat at home during the Indians/Cubs game.  I can’t believe the Indians lost. 😦

Riley was very invested in the game too. 😉

Wednesday morning my dad, Riley, Jon and I headed to the park for a nice long hike.

We saw an owl!

And a turtle!  Riley wasn’t sure what to think of it.

Such a beautiful day to be in nature.

I can’t believe we are still wearing shorts in November!

Wednesday afternoon my dad and I grabbed some lunch at McAlisters before some shopping at home goods. The squash soup was to die for!

Then it was more playtime for Riley.  He thought all my brother’s toys were his new toys.  🙂

Wednesday night my dad and I met my bestie, Rachael, at Mere Bulles for an early dinner before game 7 of the World Series.

I got the ahi tuna, which was absolutely incredible!!!

After dinner, we headed home to root for the Indians….

And Rach got some cuddling in with her nephew. 🙂

Shortly after, he was wiped!! That hike did him in. 😉

Thursday morning I met my mom at Target for a little shopping.  We grabbed a coffee and did a little more shopping before lunch at Avo.  Avo is a vegan restaurant I have been wanting to try for a while now!

I got the Nashville salad, which was full of fresh, local ingredients and my mom got the avocado toast that came with a salad too.  We both loved our meals!! So fresh and healthy!

Yesterday afternoon we caught a flight back to Dallas and now it’s back to the grind!  Looking forward to a fun dinner tonight with Jon, my sister, and her boyfriend to celebrate my birthday that was on Tuesday.  It’s official ya’ll, I am in my late 20s now… ahh!!! 🙂

Enjoy your weekend!!!
